College football is now in season. With the more weeks that go on, more news and notes will be put together. Here are some of the things happening around the sport of college football heading into week 9.
Tua Tagovailoa sprained his ankle against Tennessee and was forced to leave the game. It is the right ankle, the opposite one that he had the same injury on last season. He will be out against Arkansas and head coach Nick Saban has said there is no real timeline for his return. Backup Mac Jones will get most of the snaps until Tagovailoa returns.
Mark Richt, the former Georgia and Miami head coach suffered a heart attack early on Monday morning. Richt was cleared as fine and seems to be in good spirits since the incident.
Conference-USA has fined Lane Kiffin for a tweet that was directed at the conference’s officials. He will have to pay $5,000 after the tweet. Here is the tweet that got him in trouble:
The American Athletic Conferense is losing UConn, who is joining the Big East for basketball, but will be an independent in football. With Connecticut leaving, the AAC will have 11 teams. They need the waiver because they have fewer than 12 teams and don’t have a round-robin schedule.
Maurice Washington is facing a felony charge in California, but head coach Scott Frost said that it wasn’t the reason for Washington not being with the team. He has 298 rushing yards and 162 receiving yards this season.
This will be updated up until week 8 kicks off!
