College Football Week 0 News and Notes

The college football season is here. Every week, different news and notes will pop up, which will affect what happens on the field and off it. Here are the college football week 0 news and notes.

Michael Penix Named Washington’s Starter

Indiana-transfer Michael Penix has been named Washington’s starting quarterback. With the Hoosiers, he passed for 4,197 yards, 29 touchdowns and 15 interceptions on 59.4 percent completion. He helped the Hoosiers to a 6-2 record in 2020, but has struggled to stay healthy. At Washington, he beat out Dylan Morris and Sam Huard for the job.

Texas Names Quinn Ewers Starting QB

Texas has named Ohio State-transfer Quinn Ewers the starting quarterback for the 2022 season. Ewers was a five-star recruit who did not start for the Buckeyes last season.

Liberty Names Charlie Brewer Starter at QB

Charlie Brewer has played at both Baylor and Utah before transferring to Liberty. He has 10,184 passing yards, 68 touchdowns and 31 interceptions on 63.3 percent completion. Brewer takes over for Malik Willis who left for the NFL.

Marshall’s Rasheen Ali Taking Leave of Absence

Marshall running back Rasheen Ali is taking a leave of absence and will miss the start of the season. He rushed for 1,401 yards and 23 touchdowns last season.

Other News and Notes

-UCF names Ole Miss transfer John Rhys Plumlee the starting quarterback. He started as a quarterback and moved to wide receiver at Ole Miss.

-UNC has named Drake Maye the starting quarterback for week 1.

-Arizona State has named Florida-transfer Emory Jones the starting quarterback.

-Texas Tech names Tyler Shough starting quarterback.

-Alabama has agreed to an extension with Nick Saban. His contract runs through 2030 and pays $11.7 million per year.

Oregon has had preliminary discussions with Big Ten to talk about potential fit.

-Big Ten agreed to $7 billion-$8 billion TV deal with Fox, CBS, NBC, Peacock and FS1.

-Kedon Slovis named Pitt starting quarterback.
