College Football has now officially come back. Each week teams will be fighting for position in an effort to make the College Football Playoff. The teams will be ranked each week, but what matters most his who they have played and beaten already on the field. Preseason rankings will not be taken into consideration here. Here is College Football Playoff Bracketology October 4.
CFP Four
1. Miami Hurricanes (3-0)
Miami was off this week, but retain the top spot. With wins over Florida State, Louisville and UAB, they have done well. Now they prepare to take on Clemson, which is their first big test of the season.
This week: at Clemson Tigers (3-0)
2. Georgia Bulldogs (2-0)
The Bulldogs didn’t look good to start the season, as they needed to find a quarterback. They were able to blow out Auburn with the help of Stetson Bennett under center. That gives them an impressive win and a quarterback to grow during the season.
This week: vs. Tennessee Volunteers (2-0)
3. Cincinnati Bearcats (3-0)
After getting a ranked win over Army last week, the Bearcats were able to defeat USF this weekend. Their win over Austin Peay won’t help at all, but the Bearcats are undefeated with a ranked win, which is more than a lot of teams can say this early in the season.
This week: BYE
4. Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns (3-0)
They upset Iowa State in week 1 and have since pulled off close wins over other Sun Belt teams. Their win over Iowa State looks a lot better after the Cyclones knocked off Oklahoma this week. It is still really early, but the Ragin’ Cajuns are undefeated with a good win. Now, they prepare to take on another undefeated Sun Belt team.
This week: vs. Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (3-0)
First Four Out
5. BYU Cougars (3-0)
BYU has blown out teams all year and that continued with their win over Louisiana Tech this week. They have scored 40 points in every matchup and haven’t allowed more than 14. The Cougars have solid wins over Troy and Navy.
This week: UTSA Roadrunners (3-1)
6. Marshall Thundering Herd (2-0)
The Thundering Herd were off this week, but they are another team with a ranked win this year. They beat Appalachian State and FCS-level Eastern Kentucky. Quarterback Grant Wells looks like he’ll have Marshall competing in the C-USA this season.
This week: at Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (1-2)
7. SMU Mustangs (4-0)
SMU got a big ranked win over Memphis this weekend. Memphis was ranked 25th and gave SMU their fourth win of the season. They also have wins over Texas State, North Texas and Stephen F. Austin. The Mustangs could take the New Year’s Six spot for the group of five conferences.
8. Clemson Tigers (3-0)
Clemson beat Virginia pretty easily with a score of 41-23. They are 3-0 with wins also over The Citadel and Wake Forest. If preseason rankings were taken into account here, Clemson would be the top team. They get a chance to prove themselves against Miami this week.
This week: vs. Miami Hurricanes (3-0)
Next Four Out
9. North Carolina Tar Heels (2-0)
The Tar Heels went on the road and defeated Boston College in a tough game. They also have defeated Syracuse this season for two decent wins. North Carolina will have a big game against Virginia Tech this week.
This week: vs. Virginia Tech Hokies (2-0)
10. Alabama Crimson Tide (2-0)
Alabama is showing no signs of slowing down with Mac Jones at quarterback. They beat Missouri 38-19 and followed that up with a 52-24 win over Texas A&M. The Crimson Tide sure look like the team to beat again in the SEC.
This week at Ole Miss Rebels (1-1)
11. Florida Gators (2-0)
One of the more impressive starts to the season has come from the Florida Gators. They have put up a lot of points and won games over South Carolina and Ole Miss. The Gators will challenge Georgia for the SEC East this season.
This week: at Texas A&M Aggies (1-1)
12. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (2-0)
Notre Dame’s game against Wake Forest was postponed and they didn’t play again this weekend. The Fighting Irish have wins over USF and Duke this season. They now will prepare to play a lackluster Florida State team, as they hope to keep their undefeated season alive.
This week: vs. Florida State Seminoles (1-2)
