College Football Playoff Bracketology September 13

Each week, teams will be fighting for position in an effort to make the College Football Playoff. The teams will be ranked each week, but what matters most is who they have played and defeated already on the field. Here is College Football Playoff Preseason Bracketology: September 13.

Note: This will be updated following each week of games during the season.

First Round Byes

1. Texas Longhorns (2-0)*

Texas completed a great fourth-quarter comeback to defeat Ohio State for the best win early in the college football season. They also defeated Texas State in week 1, but the win over the Buckeyes is the main thing putting them in the top spot.

This week: vs. UTSA Roadrunners (2-0)

2. Ole Miss Rebels (2-0)

Ole Miss had no issues defeating Charlotte in week 2. This follows up their victory over a Louisville team that seems to have potential this season.

This week: vs. LSU Tigers (2-0)

3. LSU Tigers (2-0)

LSU struggled early in the game, but then started to pull away in the second half from Louisiana Tech. They get some credit for demolishing Clemson in week 1, setting up a great game in week 3.

This week: at Ole Miss Rebels (2-0)

4. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (2-0)

The Fighting Irish blew out Rice in week 2 after defeating Wisconsin in week 1. With a power conference win under their belts, and having passed the eye test, Notre Dame stays in the top four.

This week: vs. Michigan State Spartans (2-0)

First Round Hosts

5. Miami Hurricanes (2-0)*

Miami followed up their season-opening win over Stanford with a dominating win over Florida A&M. The Hurricanes still haven’t played a quality team, but are the favorites to win the ACC.

This week: at Wake Forest Demon Deacons (2-0)

6. Texas Tech Red Raiders (2-0)*

Texas Tech defeated Oregon State on the road to move to 2-0 on the season. It hasn’t all been pretty for Texas Tech, but they are still favored to win the Big 12.

This week: vs. Houston Cougars (2-0)

7. Georgia Bulldogs (2-0)

Georgia has run through the competition so far, defeating Tennessee State and Western Kentucky by wide margins. They are still in need of marquee wins, but they have plenty of big games on the schedule.

This week: at Arkansas Razorbacks (1-1)

8. Indiana Hoosiers (2-0)*

Indiana won big over Howard this week. Last week, they defeated North Texas. The Mean Green followed that up by beating UNLV big, which makes Indiana’s win over them look even better.

This week: vs. Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (0-2)

Last Four In

9. Alabama Crimson Tide (2-0)

Alabama was trailing Kentucky, but pulled away late for a good road win in the SEC. They defeated ECU in week 1. Their win over Kentucky is better than a lot of teams in these rankings.

This week: vs. Florida State Seminoles (1-1)

10. BYU Cougars (2-0)

BYU defeated Arizona in their Big 12 conference opener. That is their only win of note, but Arizona was a solid team last year and the win sets up BYU for a run in the Big 12.

This week: at Colorado State Rams (2-0)

11. Texas A&M Aggies (2-0)

Arizona State traveled to College Station and Texas A&M defeated them comfortably. A win over a power conference team is impressive and gets them into the field.

This week: vs. Kentucky Wildcats (1-1)

12. Tulsa Golden Hurricane (2-0)*

Tulsa is the leader for the group of six spot after beating Oklahoma State in week 1 and Sam Houston State in week 2. They are helped by Boise State, Memphis and others already having losses.

This week: vs. East Texas A&M Lions (FCS) (1-2)

First Four Out

UCLA Bruins (2-0)

UCLA now has wins over Cal and San Diego State. Bob Chesney has had some early success, but now will need to sustain it.

This week: vs. Purdue Boilermakers (1-1)

Tennessee Volunteers (2-0)

Getting a win on the road over Georgia Tech and impressive given that the Volunteers were starting a freshman quarterback.

This week: vs. Kennesaw State Owls (1-1)

Virginia Cavaliers (2-0)

The Cavaliers followed up on their win over NC State by blowing out Norfolk State. Winning over NC State is the big win that has them on the fringe of the field.

This week: vs. West Virginia Mountaineers (2-0)

Iowa Hawkeyes (2-0)

Iowa won their big rivalry game against Iowa State by a field goal. It is a solid win to keep them undefeated and get them into consideration for the field.

This week: vs. Northern Iowa (FCS) (1-1)

First Four Out- Group of Six Spot

North Dakota State Bison (3-0)

North Dakota State won on the road against Air Force to get their third win of the season. They also played in week 0, giving them a chance to play more games than most teams at this point of the season.

This week: at Sacramento State Hornets (1-2)

New Mexico Lobos (2-0)

New Mexico doesn’t have a great win, but they have won their two games by a combined score of 108-14.

This week: at Oklahoma Sooners (1-1)

UMass Minutemen (2-0)

UMass defeated Rutgers in week 1 and kept the momentum going in week 2 by beating Sacred Heart.

This week: vs. Stonehill Skyhawks (1-2)

USF Bulls (2-0)

USF won on a clutch play at the end against Army, a team that was projected to be decent this season. They still have some work to do to work their way into serious CFP contention.

This week: vs. Delaware State Hornets (FCS) (2-1)
