

Each week, teams will be fighting for position in an effort to make the College Football Playoff. The teams will be ranked each week, but what matters most is who they have played and defeated already on the field. Here is College Football Playoff Preseason Bracketology: September 1.
Note: This will be updated following each week of games during the season. During the season more notes about the notable wins, losses and schedule will be included for each team.
1. Ohio State Buckeyes (1-0)*
Ohio State defeated the number 1 team in the country in Texas, 14-7. It is the best win of the week and their defense looks like they can lead them to another huge season.
This week: vs. Grambling State Tigers (FCS) (1-0)
2. LSU Tigers (1-0)*
LSU went on the road and defeated a good Clemson team in a battle of top 10 teams. Their offense has talent and the defense looks much improved over last season.
This week: vs. Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (1-0)
3. Miami Hurricanes (1-0)*
Miami defeated Notre Dame in a close game during week 1. The win gives the Hurricanes an early start to CFP conversations.
This week: vs. Bethune Cookman Wildcats (FCS) (1-0)
4. Florida State Seminoles (1-0)
Florida State defeated Alabama for a top 10 win, but the more surprising thing was how more physical they looked. It was a big weekend for the ACC.
This week: vs. East Texas A&M Lions (0-1)
5. Tennessee Volunteers (1-0)
Tennessee may have lost quarterback Nico Iamaleava to the transfer portal, but they defeated Syracuse handily in week 1, showing some promise for the rest of the season.
This week: East Tennessee State Buccaneers (FCS) (1-0)
6. South Carolina Gamecocks (1-0)
While the game was close, South Carolina pulled away from Virginia Tech in their opener to win 24-11. Defeating power conference teams like South Carolina did gives them a jumpstart in these rankings.
This week: vs. South Carolina State Bulldogs (FCS) (1-0)
7. Iowa State Cyclones (2-0)*
In week 0, Iowa State won in Dublin over Kansas State. That helps them in Big 12 play, but it was also a ranked win at the time. They also had no problems with FCS-level South Dakota in week 1.
This week: vs. Iowa Hawkeyes (1-0)
8. TCU Horned Frogs (1-0)
TCU went on the road to UNC and dominated. While UNC might be worse than initially thought, TCU played a great game and deserves the ranking more than teams who didn’t play power conference teams yet.
9. Penn State Nittany Lions (1-0)
Penn State wasn’t tested by Nevada in week 1 and they’ll have the chance to prove themselves against better competition down the line.
This week: vs. Florida International Panthers (1-0)
10. Georgia Bulldogs (1-0)
Georgia dominated Marshall in week 1 and their offensive line got some good reps in, which could lead to improvement this season.
This week: vs. Austin Peay Governors (1-0)
11. Oregon Ducks (1-0)
Oregon played a good FCS program in Montana State in week 1 and came away with a big win.
This week: vs. Oklahoma State Cowboys (1-0)
12. Tulane Green Wave (1-0)*
Tulane impressed with their defeat of Northwestern, 23-3. Their defense stepped up in this game and Jon Summrall has done a great job with the program. The win over a power conference team, puts them in the driver’s seat for the group of five spot in the CFP.
This week: at South Alabama Jaguars (1-0)
Arizona State Sun Devils (1-0)
The Sun Devils defeated FCS-level Northern Arizona in week 1 and will need to play better moving forward.
This week: at Mississippi State Bulldogs (1-0)
Illinois Fighting Illini (1-0)
Illinois brought a lot back from last year’s team and it showed against Western Illinois in week 1.
This week: at Duke Blue Devils (1-0)
Michigan Wolverines (1-0)
Michigan didn’t look the smoothest yet, but they did defeat New Mexico pretty easily in week 1.
This week: at Oklahoma Sooners (1-0)
Florida Gators (1-0)
Florida defeated Long Island by a lot in week 1 and will have a tougher schedule from here on out.
This week: vs. USF Bulls (1-0)
USF Bulls (AAC) (1-0)
USF got a big win over Boise State, 34-7. This puts them in a good spot to be the group of five representative for the CFP, but they have a tough schedule ahead.
This week: at Florida Gators (1-0)
James Madison Dukes (Sun Belt) (1-0)
James Madison dominated FCS-level Weber State, 45-10. They are the favorites to come out of the Sun Belt, but have a tough game this week to prove themselves.
This week: At Louisville Cardinals (1-0)
UNLV Rebels (MWC) (2-0)
UNLV played week 0 and struggled against Idaho State, but won. In week 1, they moved to 2-0 with a win over Sam Houston State.
This week: vs. UCLA Bruins (0-1)
Ohio Bobcats (MAC) (0-1)
Ohio may have lost their season-opening game to Rutgers, but they played well, losing 34-31. They should play well in the MAC this season.
This week: vs. West Virginia Mountaineers (1-0)
Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (C-USA) (2-0)
After defeating Sam Houston State in week 0, Western Kentucky got a big win over FCS-level North Alabama in week 1. They have plenty of offensive firepower to have a good season.
This week: at Toledo Rockets (0-1)
