College Football Playoff Bracketology October 3

Each week teams will be fighting for position in an effort to make the College Football Playoff. The teams will be ranked each week, but what matters most is who they have played and beaten already on the field. Preseason rankings will not be taken into consideration here. Here is College Football Playoff Bracketology October 3.

CFP Four

1. Georgia Bulldogs (5-0)

Not only has Georgia’s defense been great, but they have also helped them stifle two good teams now. Earlier in the year, they beat Clemson and now they have defeated Arkansas 37-0. It looks like it will be Bulldogs and Alabama at the top of this list until something crazy happens.

This week: at Auburn Tigers (4-1)

2. Alabama Crimson Tide (5-0)

Alabama moves down a spot, even after getting a big win over Ole Miss. Their win against Florida looks a little worse now and Miami isn’t that great this season either. The Crimson Tide are fine though if they keep taking care of business.

This week: at Texas A&M Aggies (3-2)

3. Iowa Hawkeyes (5-0)

After struggling against Colorado State in week 4, Iowa destroyed a previously undefeated Maryland team. That is how Iowa plays though. They specialize in forcing turnovers and controlling the clock. The Hawkeyes’ wins over Indiana and Iowa State look less impressive now, but Iowa is taking care of business. They’ll have a huge game against Penn State in week 6.

This week: vs Penn State Nittany Lions (5-0)

4. Penn State Nittany Lions (5-0)

Penn State didn’t have any problems beating Indiana at home to extend their winning streak. They also have solid wins over Wisconsin and Auburn, who have somehow won two straight since losing to the Nittany Lions. The game against Iowa will give more clarity to how good both teams actually are.

This week: at Iowa Hawkeyes (5-0)

First Four Out

5. Cincinnati Bearcats (4-0)

Any group of five teams who want to be considered for the CFP need to take note of what Cincinnati has done. They now have two good road wins this season with one coming to Indiana and the other now being Notre Dame. The rest of the schedule looks wide open now, so the Bearcats need to run the table if they want any hope of making the CFP.

This week: vs. Temple Owls (3-2)

6. Kentucky Wildcats (5-0)

Kentucky upset Florida to remain unbeaten this season. They don’t boast any other great wins, as the South Carolina and Missouri wins won’t sway anyone, but the win over Florida is huge. Kentucky has a chance to really shake things up in the SEC East this year behind Georgia.

This week: vs. LSU Tigers (3-2)

7. BYU Cougars (5-0)

After going 3-0 to start the season against the Pac-12, BYU defeated USF and a rival in Utah State. They have tested themselves early with their scheduling and have come out on top so far. The Cougars still have a few tough games to help their case before the season ends.

This week: vs. Boise State Broncos (2-3)

8. Oklahoma Sooners (5-0)

Oklahoma defeated Kansas State by six and still looks like they have issues to figure out. Their signature win is West Virginia so far. They will have a chance to move up in these rankings if they can beat Texas in week 6.

This week: vs. Texas Longhorns (4-1)

Next Four Out

9. Oklahoma State Cowboys (5-0)

The Cowboys haven’t looked great, but they remain undefeated through five games. This week they won against Baylor. They have also had victories over Kansas State and Boise State, but how good those wins are is in question. Oklahoma State has taken care of business so far and now heads into a bye week.

This week: Bye

10. Michigan State Spartans (5-0)

Not many would’ve thought Michigan State would be 5-0 at this point, but here they are. They have some ok wins over Miami, Northwestern and Nebraska, but the main reason they are on this list is they are still undefeated.

This week: at Rutgers Scarlet Knights (3-2)

11. Michigan Wolverines (5-0)

Michigan is in a similar situation to their in-state rivals. They have won all of their games, but their opponents haven’t been great. Wisconsin sits with three losses after Michigan defeated them this week and Washington still has no offense. All the Wolverines can do is keep winning.

This week: at Nebraska Cornhuskers (3-3)

12. Arkansas Razorbacks (4-1)

It was an embarrassing performance for Arkansas against Georgia, as they lost 37-0. The Razorbacks still have good wins over Texas and Texas A&M (although the Aggies don’t look too hot after losing to Mississippi State). Beating Ole Miss in week 6 will help them get back on track.

This week: at Ole Miss Rebels (3-1)
