College Football Playoff Bracketology October 29

Publish Date: October 29, 2023

Each week teams will be fighting for position in an effort to make the College Football Playoff. The teams will be ranked each week, but what matters most is who they have played and defeated already on the field. Preseason rankings will not be taken into consideration here. Here is College Football Playoff Bracketology October 29.

CFP Four

1. Ohio State Buckeyes (8-0)

It wasn’t their best performance, but the Buckeyes got a road win over Wisconsin. Ohio State’s case for the top spot is still bolstered by their wins over Notre Dame and Penn State. They’ll try to get more out of their offense down the stretch.

This week: at Rutgers Scarlet Knights (6-2)

2. Florida State Seminoles (8-0)

Florida State didn’t have any issues with Wake Forest in week 8. They remain undefeated and have a marquee win over LSU bolstering their resume. Some of their losses don’t look as good anymore, as Duke and Clemson have lost some steam, but the Seminoles still have done enough to rank highly.

This week: at Pittsburgh Panthers (2-6)

3. Washington Huskies (8-0)

Washington won against Stanford in week 8. They stay undefeated, but haven’t looked great the last two weeks. Luckily, they looked really good in the first several weeks of the season and they have a big win over Oregon under their belts.

This week: at USC Trojans (7-2)

4. Georgia Bulldogs (8-0)

Florida wasn’t great competition for Georgia, as the Bulldogs won their rivalry game 43-20. The Bulldogs don’t have a win that will impress the committee yet this season, but their schedule starts to get tougher now.

This week: vs. Missouri Tigers (7-1)

First Four Out

5. Michigan Wolverines (8-0)

If these rankings were solely based on the eye test Michigan would surely be in the top four. They rank fifth after their bye week, as they still haven’t had the toughest schedule.

This week: vs. Purdue Boilermakers (2-6)

6. Oklahoma Sooners (7-1)

Oklahoma lost to Kansas in week 8 to take a slight fall down the rankings. Their win over Texas keeps them ranked highly (and over the Longhorns), but the Sooners will have to get things back on track.

This week: at Oklahoma State Cowboys (6-2)

7. Texas Longhorns (7-1)

Texas fared well with a backup quarterback against BYU, as they won 35-6. Their lone loss was to Oklahoma and they have a big win over Alabama to keep them right in the thick of the CFP race.

This week: vs. Kansas State Wildcats (6-2)

8. Oregon Ducks (7-1)

Oregon blew out Utah on the road to keep their hopes up for a shot at the CFP. They only have one loss, which was against Washington on the road. If they win out, they will be in the CFP.

This week: vs. Cal Golden Bears (3-5)

Next Four Out

9. Alabama Crimson Tide (7-1)

Alabama had a bye in week 9 as they prepare to play LSU in week 10. The Crimson Tide likely need to win out to make the CFP, which won’t be easy.

This week: vs. LSU Tigers (6-2)

10. Ole Miss Rebels (7-1)

Ole Miss notched a win over Vanderbilt in week 9. That won’t help their CFP case too much, but they do only have a loss to Alabama and did get a good win over LSU.

This week: vs. Texas A&M Aggies (5-3)

11. Louisville Cardinals (7-1)

Louisville has rebounded from their loss to Pittsburgh by defeating Duke 23-0. The Cardinals need to win out to make the CFP, but Jeff Brohm has them playing well this season, so it is possible.

This week: vs. Virginia Tech Hokies (4-4)

12. Missouri Tigers (7-1)

The Tigers were on a bye in week 9. Their sole loss of the season was to LSU. They have a few decent wins, but will really be tested in the backend of the schedule.

This week: at Georgia Bulldogs (8-0)
