College Football Playoff Bracketology October 27

Each week teams will be fighting for position in an effort to make the College Football Playoff. The teams will be ranked each week, but what matters most is who they have played and defeated already on the field. Here is College Football Playoff Preseason Bracketology: October 27.

Note: This will be updated following each week of games during the season

First Round Byes

1. Oregon Ducks (8-0)

Oregon took care of business against a ranked Illinois team to stay undefeated. Their win over Ohio State and their unblemished record makes them the clear top team right now.

This week: at Michigan Wolverines (5-3)

2. Georgia Bulldogs (6-1)

Georgia didn’t play in week 9, but look like the favorites in the SEC still despite having one loss in the conference. They have nice wins over Texas and Clemson helping them be the number two team.

This week: vs. Florida Gators (4-3)

3. Miami Hurricanes (8-0)

The Hurricanes stayed undefeated with a win over their rivals Florida State. It looks like they are on a crash course to play Clemson in the ACC Championship Game.

This week: vs. Duke Blue Devils (6-2)

4. BYU Cougars (8-0)

BYU stayed undefeated by beating UCF on the road. While the schedule hasn’t been the toughest, they have won all their games and have a manageable schedule until the Big 12 Championship Game.

This week: BYE

First Round Hosts

5. Ohio State Buckeyes (6-1)

Ohio State looked really sloppy against Nebraska, but they got the win. Their offensive line specifically looked vulnerable, which could be a problem down the road.

This week: at Penn State Nittany Lions (7-0)

6. Penn State Nittany Lions (7-0)

The Nittany Lions suffered an injury to starting quarterback Drew Allar, but still came away with the win at Wisconsin. With Allar injured, this week’s game against Ohio State could be tougher.

This week: vs. Ohio State Buckeyes (6-1)

7. Texas Longhorns (7-1)

Texas had a close call at Vanderbilt, which is more understandable than in past seasons. The loss to Georgia is concerning, but the Longhorns should be able to put together a few more wins in the next few weeks.

This week: BYE

8. Tennessee Volunteers (6-1)

Tennessee had a bye this week after defeating Alabama in week 8. They still have some ups and downs this season, but have some nice wins and are in a good position to make a run at the top 12.

This week: vs. Kentucky Wildcats (3-5)

Last Four In

9. Iowa State Cyclones (7-0)

Iowa State didn’t have a game in week 9 and holds firm in the top 12. Their best win is probably over Iowa, so they need to continue to impress the CFP Comittee down the stretch if they take a loss or two.

This week: vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders (5-3)

10. Indiana Hoosiers (8-0)

The Hoosiers were without starting quarterback Kurtis Rourke and still got the win over Washington. Indiana’s best win is over Nebraska and they have a decently manageable schedule outside of Ohio State down the stretch.

This week: at Michigan State Spartans (4-4)

11. Texas A&M Aggies (7-1)

Texas A&M hosted and defeated LSU this week in a battle of undefeated teams in the SEC. The Aggies haven’t lost since their season-opener to Notre Dame and have a clear path to the CFP.

This week: at South Carolina Gamecocks (4-3)

12. Boise State Broncos (6-1)

Boise State won the biggest game of the group of five season so far, defeating UNLV on the road. The two teams may meet up in the MWC Championship Game, but for now, Boise has solidified themselves as the fifth-conference champion in the field.

This week: vs. San Diego State Aztecs (3-4)

First Four Out- At Large

Clemson Tigers (6-1)

Clemson hasn’t lost since week 1, when they lost to Georgia. They don’t have a win that really proves how good they are, but could have one or two of those before the CFP Committee selects teams.

This week: vs. Louisville Cardinals (5-3)

Notre Dame Fighting Irish (7-1)

Notre Dame defeated a ranked Navy team this week easily. Their best win is over Texas A&M, but their los to Northern Illinois really hurts their case.

This week: BYE

Kanas State Wildcats (7-1)

Kansas State struggled with Kansas in week 9, but came out with a victory. Their lone loss is to BYU, who sits atop the Big 12, but the Wildcats could end up making the conference championship game for a chance at revenge.

This week: at Houston Cougars (3-5)

Pittsburgh Panthers (7-0)

Pittsburgh blew out Syracuse 41-13 this week for a solid win. They stay undefeated and in a good position to make a run at the ACC.

This week: at SMU Mustangs (7-1)

First Four Out- Group of Five

Army Black Knights (7-0)

Army moves up this list even without having a game this week with other teams losing. They are undefeated and a Boise State slip up or two could lead Army into the projected CFP field.

This week: vs. Air Force Falcons (1-6)

UNLV Rebels (6-2)

The Rebels took a close loss to Boise State this week, but their season is not over. Winning out and defeating Boise in the MWC Championship Game gives them a shot to make the CFP.

This week: BYE

Navy Midshipmen (6-1)

Navy lost to Notre Dame to move down this list. They can still win out to keep themselves in the running for the CFP, although their game against Army won’t happen until after the CFP Committee picks the field.

This week: at Rice Owls (2-6)

Memphis Tigers (7-1)

Memphis has one loss on the season, which came to Navy. They’ll likely need to win out to make the CFP, but there is still some hope.

This week: at UTSA Roadrunners (3-5)
