College Football Playoff Bracketology October 23

Publish Date: October 23, 2022

Each week teams will be fighting for position in an effort to make the College Football Playoff. The teams will be ranked each week, but what matters most is who they have played and beaten already on the field. Preseason rankings will not be taken into consideration here. Here is College Football Playoff Bracketology October 23.

CFP Four

1. Tennessee Volunteers (7-0)

Tennessee had an easy game against UT-Martin and won 65-24. The Volunteers still have the best wins of any team this year, notching wins over Alabama, LSU, Florida and Pittsburgh.

This week: vs. Kentucky Wildcats (5-2)

2. Clemson Tigers (8-0)

It was close, but Clemson defeated Syracuse to move to an 8-0 record. They have wins over Wake Forest, NC State, Florida State and Syracuse. That means all of their tough games are through until the ACC Championship Game.

This week: BYE

3. Michigan Wolverines (7-0)

Michigan was idle this weekend, but stays this highly-ranked, largely thanks to their win over Penn State.

This week: vs. Michigan State Spartans (3-4)

4. Ohio State Buckeyes (7-0)

The Buckeyes destroyed Iowa 54-10 and didn’t even play their best. Their marquee win is still eluding them, but if the teams were solely ranked off the eye test, the Buckeyes would likely rank first.

This week: at Penn State Nittany Lions (6-1)

First Four Out

5. Georgia Bulldogs (7-0)

Georgia was on a bye this week, which was needed. They had some sloppy performances in the first half of the season, but are still very much in play to win the National Championship.

This week: vs. Florida Gators (4-3) (Game in Jacksonville, Florida)

6. TCU Horned Frogs (7-0)

It took a comeback performance, but TCU stayed undefeated and got a big win over Kansas State. They are now looking like a lock for the Big 12 Championship Game. The Horned Frogs have big wins over Oklahoma State and Kansas State now.

This week: at West Virginia Mountaineers (3-4)

7. Alabama Crimson Tide (7-1)

Alabama bounced back from their loss to Tennessee with a win against Mississippi State. They are still very much in play to make the College Football Playoff, but likely need to be perfect throughout the next few weeks.

This week: BYE

8. Oklahoma State Cowboys (6-1)

The Cowboys struggled with a good Texas team, but came out on top. Their lone loss is to TCU, which might have a chance to be avenged in the Big 12 Championship Game.

This week: at Kansas State Wildcats (5-2)

Next Four Out

9. Oregon Ducks (6-1)

Oregon was written off early in the season after losing to Georgia. They have since reeled off six straight wins. The Ducks can win the Pac-12 and maybe sneak into the College Football Playoff.

This week: at California Golden Bears (3-4)

10. USC Trojans (6-1)

The Trojans did not play this week and their last result was a loss to Utah. They have some decent wins, but mainly rank this high because they have just one loss.

This week: at Arizona Wildcats (3-4)

11. Wake Forest Demon Deacons (6-1)

Wake Forest had no problems with Boston College and now sits at 6-1. Their only loss is to Clemson, but they have some tough games in the back-half of the schedule.

This week: at Louisville Cardinals (4-3)

12. Penn State Nittany Lions (6-1)

Penn State bounced back from their loss to Michigan with a win over Minnesota. The Nittany Lions will have another chance to prove themselves against Ohio State this week.

This week: vs. Ohio State Buckeyes (7-0)
