Each week teams will be fighting for position in an effort to make the College Football Playoff. The teams will be ranked each week, but what matters most is who they have played and beaten already on the field. Preseason rankings will not be taken into consideration here. Here is College Football Playoff Bracketology October 10.
CFP Four
1. Georgia Bulldogs (6-0)
With Alabama losing, Georgia is the undisputed best team in college football. They have wins over Auburn, Arkansas and Clemson to help their case. The Bulldogs have a great defense, which should continue to lead them to big wins.
This week: vs. Kentucky Wildcats (6-0)
2. Iowa Hawkeyes (6-0)
It was a nail-biter, but Iowa was able to come away with a win over Penn State for one of the best victories of the college football season. They have specialized in running the football and forcing turnovers, which has led them to a very impressive start to the season. The rest of the schedule looks pretty manageable for the Hawkeyes.
This week: vs. Purdue Boilermakers (3-2)
3. Cincinnati Bearcats (5-0)
Playing Temple was an opportunity for a letdown performance for the Bearcats after they defeated Notre Dame, but they took care of business, winning 52-3. Cincinnati is a real College Football Playoff contender, even if they are not in a power five conference. With wins over Indiana and Notre Dame bolstering their resume, they need to win out to have a chance.
This week: vs. UCF Knights (3-2)
4. Kentucky Wildcats (6-0)
Kentucky once again rose to the occasion, defeating LSU 42-21. This came after defeating Florida and the crazy thing about it is that they have just one tough game left: Georgia. The Wildcats have already surprised, but they could do so even more next week.
This week: at Georgia Bulldogs (6-0)
First Four Out
5. Oklahoma Sooners (6-0)
Caleb Williams was inserted into the game for Spencer Rattler and that was just the spark that Oklahoma needed to get the offense going. Oklahoma defeated Texas to notch a big win and now need to keep that momentum going.
This week: vs. TCU Horned Frogs (3-2)
6. Oklahoma State Cowboys (5-0)
The Cowboys were off this weekend, but move up the rankings because other teams lost. They haven’t played up to their potential yet, but have notched some solid wins over Boise State, Kansas State and Baylor. As an undefeated team, they control their own destiny.
This week: at Texas Longhorns (4-2)
7. Michigan Wolverines (6-0)
Michigan isn’t blowing out teams, but they are winning games. Their win over Nebraska was another close one, 32-29. The most important thing is that they are still undefeated and control their own destiny, even if they don’t have big wins yet.
This week: BYE
8. Michigan State Spartans (6-0)
They started off slowly against Rutgers, but things picked up quickly for the Spartans. Michigan State got some big plays and won 31-13. The Spartans could make things interesting in the Big Ten East.
This week: at Indiana Hoosiers (2-3)
Next Four Out
9. Alabama Crimson Tide (5-1)
A loss to Texas A&M sets Alabama back, but winning out should land them in the CFP. They still have wins over Ole Miss, Florida and Miami. Nick Saban will have his team ready to go for the rest of the season.
This week: at Mississippi State Bulldogs (3-2)
10. Oregon Ducks (4-1)
Oregon did not play this weekend and their last result was a loss to Stanford. They still have their win over Ohio State helping them out, but they have limited opportunities for big wins the rest of the way.
This week: vs. Cal Golden Bears (1-4)
11. Ohio State Buckeyes (5-1)
Ohio State seems to have fixed a lot of their problems as they defeated Maryland 66-17. The loss to Oregon still weighs down their case to be in the CFP, but the Buckeyes have plenty of opportunities for big wins in the Big Ten this season.
This week: BYE
12. Ole Miss Rebels (4-1)
It was a crazy game, but Ole Miss defeated Arkansas 52-51. The defense leaves some concerns, but the Rebels have an offense that can keep them winning games in the SEC.
This week: at Tennessee Volunteers (4-2)
