College Football Playoff Bracketology: November 9

Publish Date: November 9, 2025

Each week, teams will be fighting for position in an effort to make the College Football Playoff. The teams will be ranked each week, but what matters most is who they have played and defeated already on the field. Here is College Football Playoff Preseason Bracketology: November 9.

Note: This will be updated following each week of games during the season. During the season more notes about the notable wins, losses and schedule will be included for each team.

First Round Byes

1. Ohio State Buckeyes (9-0)*

Ohio State dominated Purdue this week and there should be no reason they fall from the number one spot after earning it for the first week of the CFP rankings.

This week: vs. UCLA Bruins (3-6)

2. Texas A&M Aggies (9-0)*

Texas A&M had no issues on the road with Missouri. The ranked win should bolster their case to move above Indiana in the CFP rankings, as they also have a road win over a highly-ranked Notre Dame team.

This week: vs. South Carolina Gamecocks (3-6)

3. Indiana Hoosiers (10-0)

The Hoosiers had a very tight win over a talented Penn State team on the road. They may get jumped for Texas A&M, but the committee might respect the road win.

This week: vs. Wisconsin Badgers (3-6)

4. Alabama Crimson Tide (8-1)

Alabama didn’t play their best game, but were able to defeat LSU 20-9. They have been on fire since losing to Florida State in the opening week and should be the highest-ranked one-loss team for at least the rest of the regular season.

This week: vs. Oklahoma Sooners (7-2)

First Round Hosts

5. Georgia Bulldogs (8-1)

Georgia went on the road and took care of business against Mississippi State, winning 41-21. They have not looked like a vintage Georgia team led by great defense, but their offense has put them right on the cusp of getting a bye.

This week: vs. Texas Longhorns (7-2)

6. Ole Miss Rebels (9-1)

Ole Miss defeated the Citadel this week, which won’t move the needle much, but they stay at the sixth spot in the rankings.

This week: vs. Florida Gators (3-6)

7. Texas Tech Red Raiders (9-1)*

The Red Raiders had a big game against BYU, who was ranked higher than them. Texas Tech won pretty easily, which means they should be heading to the Big 12 Championship Game if they take care of business.

This week: vs. UCF Knights (4-5)

8. Oregon Ducks (8-1)

It was a bad weather game in Iowa and Oregon impressively came out of Kinnick Stadium with a two-point win. It is a win over a ranked team by the committee and the Ducks move up with BYU losing.

This week: vs. Minnesota Golden Gophers (6-3)

Last Four In

9. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (7-2)

Notre Dame defeated a good Navy team this week in dominating fashion. They were surprisingly ranked 10th in the first CFP rankings and now move up due to BYU losing.

This week: at Pittsburgh Panthers (7-2)

10. Texas Longhorns (7-2)

Texas was off this week, but move up due to BYU dropping. They have some big games down the stretch and can move up the rankings a lot with some wins.

This week: at Georgia Bulldogs (8-1)

11. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (8-1)*

The Yellow Jackets didn’t have a game this week, but with other ACC teams losing, they should be the highest-ranked ACC team, which would put them in the CFP.

12. James Madison Dukes (8-1)*

With Memphis losing, there is a good chance that James Madison moves up to take the last spot reserved for a conference champion. Their lone loss is to Louisville and winning out will have them right in the thick of the CFP.

This week: vs. Appalachian State Mountaineers (4-5)

First Four Out

Oklahoma Sooners (7-2)

Oklahoma didn’t play this week after being ranked 12th in the initial CFP rankings. While they are out of the 12-team CFP because of guaranteed slots to the five highest-ranked conference champions, they are in a good spot if they can win out.

This week: at Alabama Crimson Tide (8-1)

BYU Cougars (8-1)

BYU lost big to Texas Tech, which drops them out of the CFP. There is still a lot of hope for them if they can rebound and make the Big 12 Championship Game.

This week: vs. TCU Horned Frogs (6-3)

Utah Utes (7-2)

The Utes were off this week. Things are tough for them, as they’ll need some help to make the Big 12 Championship Game. If they don’t make that, they could still make the CFP as an at-large, but that could be tough.

This week: at Baylor Bears (5-4)

Vanderbilt Commodores (8-2)

While it wasn’t pretty, Vanderbilt defeated Auburn in overtime to keep their CFP hopes alive.

This week: BYE

First Four Out-Group of Five

San Diego State Aztecs (MWC) (7-2)

San Diego State likely would’ve been in the field had they defeated Hawaii, but they got blown out. They still have a path to the CFP, but need to win out and get some help.

This week: vs. Boise State Broncos (6-3)

USF Bulls (American) (7-2)

USF has losses to Memphis and Miami, but have played well this season. They are one of five teams with just one loss in conference, which could make things crazy down the stretch.

This week: at Navy Midshipmen (7-2)

North Texas Mean Green (American) (8-1)

North Texas still has just one loss on the season. In the American Conference, which has a lot of teams at the top vying for the title and they have a manageable schedule the rest of the way.

Tulane Green Wave (American) (7-2)

Tulane recovered from their second loss of the season, when they lost to UTSA, to defeat Memphis. The win keeps them in play for the American Conference Championship Game and also makes Memphis a team that needs some help to make it.

This game: vs. Florida Atlantic Owls (4-5)
