The 10th week of the college football season is in the books. Each week the performance of the teams on the field can be looked at to see who is in the best position to make the College Football Playoff. Note that this bracketology will only take into consideration what happened on the field, so teams who played tough games will be ranked high. Conversely, hyped-up teams who haven’t played tough games yet, will likely be unranked or ranked lowly on the list until there is a solid sample size. Here is the College Football Playoff bracketology November 3.
CFP Four
1. LSU Tigers (8-0)
The Tigers were idle this weekend as they prepare for their big matchup this week. They still have the most impressive CFP case with wins over Texas, Auburn and Florida.
This week: at Alabama Crimson Tide (8-0)
2. Ohio State Buckeyes (8-0)
Ohio State was on bye this week as well. If these rankings were solely based on the eye-test, the Buckeyes would be ranked at the top. They do have good wins over Wisconsin and Cincinnati this season.
This week: vs. Maryland Terrapins (3-6)
3. Penn State Nittany Lions (8-0)
The list of teams on byes this week goes on. Penn State did have three straight good weeks with wins over Iowa, Michigan and Michigan State. They play undefeated Minnesota this week in one of the good matchups of the weekend.
This week: at Minnesota Golden Gophers (8-0)
4. Alabama Crimson Tide (8-0)
All top four teams were off this week. Alabama has one decent win over Texas A&M, but have largely played a manageable schedule. Reports are Tua Tagovailoa will play against LSU, but he will likely not be 100 percent on his sprained ankle.
This week: vs. LSU Tigers (8-0)
First Four Out
5. Clemson Tigers (9-0)
Clemson was the highest-ranked team that played this weekend, but it was a game against FCS-level Wofford. They won easily, but the scoring margin looked like they were playing another ACC team. Like Alabama, Clemson only has one ok win, which came over Texas A&M.
This week: at NC State Wolfpack (4-4)
6. Georgia Bulldogs (7-1)
While their win over Notre Dame is looking a little worse now, Georgia did just get another big win over Florida to add to their resume. If they win out, they’ll be in the playoff.
This week: vs. Missouri Tigers (5-3)
7. Baylor Bears (8-0)
The Bears did not have a game in week 10 and they are still undefeated late in the season. They still have Oklahoma and Texas on the schedule, but have had a great start to the season to build off of.
This week: at TCU Horned Frogs (4-4)
8. Oregon Ducks (8-1)
Oregon won a tricky game on the road at USC to extend their winning streak to eight. They lost the season-opener to Auburn, but have since played well in a down Pac-12. The Ducks need help to reach the CFP, but they are in position to make it if the right things fall into place.
This week: BYE
Next Four Out
9. Oklahoma Sooners (7-1)
Before their bye week, Oklahoma lost to Kansas State. They had looked like one of the best teams in the country leading into that game. Their win over Texas is helping them less with every loss the Longhorns rack up. They’ll have four tough games to end the season, as they play a few of the top teams in the Big 12.
This week: vs. Iowa State Cyclones (5-3)
10. Utah Utes (8-1)
The Utes were able to sneak away with a victory over Washington. Their only loss on the year was against USC. Utah needs a lot of help to get to the CFP, but crazy things happen in college football.
This week: BYE
11. Minnesota Golden Gophers (8-0)
Minnesota was off this week as well. They haven’t played a tough schedule, but they’ve taken care of business. Now, they have one of their biggest games in a long, long time coming up against Penn State.
This week: vs. Penn State Nittany Lions (8-0)
12. Florida Gators (7-2)
A loss to Georgia drops Florida in these rankings, but it was a good loss. They also lost to LSU in a close game. With two understandable losses and a win over Auburn, Florida stays in these rankings as the only two-loss team.
This week: vs. Vanderbilt Commodores (2-6)
