Each week teams will be fighting for position in an effort to make the College Football Playoff. The teams will be ranked each week, but what matters most is who they have played and defeated already on the field. Here is College Football Playoff Bracketology: November 3.
Note: This will be updated following each week of games during the season.
First Round Byes
1. Oregon Ducks (9-0)
Oregon went on the road and defeated Michigan. They stay undefeated and look like they are shoe-ins to make the Big Ten Championship Game at this point.
This week: vs. Maryland Terrapins (4-4)
2. Georgia Bulldogs (7-1)
Georgia was able to pull away from Florida late in the game. Their offense was sloppy, but their defense gave them the edge.
This week: at Ole Miss Rebels (7-2)
3. Miami Hurricanes (8-0)
It was close for a decent amount of the game, but Miami pulled away late to defeat Duke. A lot of their games have been close, but they keep on winning.
This week: at Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (5-4)
4. BYU Cougars (8-0)
BYU was off this week and with their undefeated record, stay in the fourth spot. They have some nice wins over SMU and Kansas State to really help their case of being ranked higher than other Big 12 teams.
This week: at Utah Utes (4-4)
First Round Hosts
5. Ohio State Buckeyes (7-1)
Ohio State had a banged-up offensive line, but went into Happy Valley and defeated Penn State. That puts a lot of questions to rest and the Buckeyes have a good path to the CFP.
This week: vs. Purdue Boilermakers (1-7)
6. Texas Longhorns (7-1)
The Longhorns were off this weekend, but move up with other teams losing. They look like they could be headed to the SEC Championship Game, but have a few more tests first.
This week: vs. Florida Gators (4-4)
7. Tennessee Volunteers (7-1)
Althought it took a while, Tennessee put away Kentucky to go to 7-1 on the season. With the win, they stay in the top eight and in the race for the SEC.
This week: vs. Mississippi State Bulldogs (2-7)
8. Penn State Nittany Lions (7-1)
Penn State played Ohio State close, but ended up losing the game by a possession. The Nittany Lions don’t have a marquee win, but can still make the CFP by avoiding a loss the rest of the way.
This week: vs. Washington Huskies (5-4)
Last Four In
9. Indiana Hoosiers (9-0)
Indiana reached nine wins with a victory over Indiana. They went down early and then came back to get the win.
This week: vs. Michigan Wolverines (5-4)
10. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (7-1)
Notre Dame was off this week, but move up as a result of other teams losing. The Fighting Irish still have a bad loss to Northern Illinois, but if they take care of business down the stretch, they should be in the CFP.
This week: vs. Florida State Seminoles (1-8)
11. SMU Mustangs (8-1)
The SMU Mustangs took care of business against a ranked Pitt team this week. With the win, the Mustangs stay undefeated in ACC play and only have a loss to BYU this season.
This week: BYE
12. Boise State Broncos (7-1)
Boise State went up early on San Diego State and didn’t look back. They still have just one loss, which was to Oregon, making them the favorite to take the group of five spot in the College Football Playoff.
This week: vs. Nevada Wolfpack (3-7)
First Four Out- At-Large
Alabama Crimson Tide (7-2)
Alabama’s losses to Vanderbilt and Tennessee look a lot better now than they did a few weeks ago. The Crimson Tide still have a big win over Georgia bolstering their case for the CFP.
This week: at LSU Tigers (6-2)
Texas A&M Aggies (7-2)
Texas A&M falls out of the top 12 after losing on the road to South Carolina. The Aggies have another loss to Notre Dame, but are still in play to make the SEC Championship Game.
This week: BYE
LSU Tigers (6-2)
LSU was off this week, but has a chance to put themselves right back in the middle of things if they can defeat Alabama in week 11.
This week: vs. Alabama Crimson Tide (6-2)
Iowa State Cyclones (7-1)
Iowa State lost to Texas Tech, which gives them a decent hit in these rankings. The Big 12 spot or an at-large are still at play for the Cyclones, who have a manageable schedule for the next couple of weeks.
This week: BYE
First Four Out- Group of Five
Army Black Knights (8-0)
Army defeated Air Force 20-3 even without their starting quarterback. The Black Knights are undefeated and could sneak into the CFP with a Boise State loss down the stretch.
This week: at North Texas Mean Green (5-3)
UNLV Rebels (6-2)
The Rebels were off this week. They still just have losses to Boise State and Syracuse. Winning out, which would include a win of the MWC Championship, could get them into the CFP.
This week: at Hawaii Warriors (4-5)
Tulane Green Wave (7-2)
Tulane is undefeated in the AAC. If they win out and get some help from MWC teams losing, they could end up being the group of five representative.
This week: vs. Temple Owls (2-6)
Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns (7-1)
If chaos happens, Louisiana could make the CFP. They have just one loss this season, which was to Tulane. They are undefeated in Sun Belt play.
This week: vs. Arkansas State Red Wolves (5-3)
