College Football Playoff Bracketology: November 2

Publish Date: November 2, 2025

Each week, teams will be fighting for position in an effort to make the College Football Playoff. The teams will be ranked each week, but what matters most is who they have played and defeated already on the field. Here is College Football Playoff Preseason Bracketology: November 2.

Note: This will be updated following each week of games during the season. During the season more notes about the notable wins, losses and schedule will be included for each team.

First Round Byes

1. Ohio State Buckeyes (8-0)*

Ohio State had no issues defeating Penn State to move to 8-0. They are a step above everyone else at this point in the season and deserve the no. 1 seed.

This week: at Purdue Boilermakers (2-7)

2. Indiana Hoosiers (9-0)

Indiana had another dominating win, this time against Maryland. Their win over Oregon still carries a lot of weight, but so too does the way they defeat the opponents that they should defeat.

This week: at Penn State Nittany Lions (3-5)

3. Texas A&M Aggies (8-0)*

Texas A&M was off this week and stay at the third spot in the rankings. They have some great wins, but have some tough games down the stretch.

This week: at Missouri Tigers (6-2)

4. Alabama Crimson Tide (7-1)

Alabama won seven straight games after losing the season-opener to Florida State. The Crimson Tide didn’t have a game this week, but look like one of the best teams in the country.

This week: vs. LSU Tigers (5-3)

First Round Hosts

5. Georgia Bulldogs (7-1)

Georgia didn’t play against Florida, but were able to get out of Jacksonville with a win. The Bulldogs still have just a loss to Alabama on the season.

This week: at Mississippi State Bulldogs (5-4)

6. Ole Miss Rebels (8-1)

Ole Miss didn’t have many problems with South Carolina and moved to 8-1 on the season. They have only lost to Georgia and have a nice win over Oklahoma helping their standing.

This week: The Citadel (FCS 4-5)

7. BYU Cougars (8-0)*

BYU didn’t play in week 10, but the Cougars move up with Georgia Tech losing to NC State. They had some help in the Big 12 standings as well with Cincinnati losing and are now in first place all by themselves, but have a big game this week.

This week: at Texas Tech Red Raiders (8-1)

8. Oregon Ducks (7-1)

Oregon had a bye this week, but with other teams losing, moves into the top eight. While they don’t have a marquee win, the Ducks have only lost to Indiana so far this season.

This week: at Iowa Hawkeyes (6-2)

Last Four In

9. Texas Tech Red Raiders (8-1)

After struggling early, Texas Tech poured it on against Kansas State, winning 43-20. They have a clear path to the Big 12 Championship and to the CFP if they are able to keep winning.

This week: at BYU Cougars (8-0)

10. Virginia Cavaliers (8-1)*

Virginia got a tough road win over California in week 10. They are still undefeated in the ACC, as their lone loss to the season was to NC State in a weirdly scheduled non-conference game.

This week: vs. Wake Forest Demon Deacons (5-3)

11. Louisville Cardinals (7-1)

Louisville moves into the field after defeating Virginia Tech this week. They have a win over Miami, but lost to Virginia. There is a path to the ACC Championship Game and to a CFP appearance, but they may need to win out.

This week: vs. California Golden Bears

12. Memphis Tigers (8-1)*

The loss to UAB temporarily held Memphis back, but they now have two straight wins after beating Rice and look like the favorite to come out of the American Conference.

This week: BYE

First Four Our

Vanderbilt Commodores (7-2)

Vanderbilt lost on the road to Texas in a game where they had a good effort to come back late. Their only losses are on the road to Texas and Alabama. If they win out, they may not go to Atlanta for the SEC Championship, but they may make the CFP.

This week: vs. Auburn Tigers (4-5)

Oklahoma Sooners (7-2)

Oklahoma won a big game on the road against the Tennessee Volunteers. They have two losses and another one could have really left them on the outside looking in for the CFP.

This week: BYE

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (8-1)

Georgia Tech lost their first game of the season this week, which came to NC State. They drop out of the projected field and now need to focus on making the ACC Championship Game, and possibly beating Georgia in the last week of the regular season, to make the CFP.

This week: BYE

Notre Dame Fighting Irish (6-2)

Notre Dame puled away late against Boston College to win their sixth-straight game. Their loss to Miami looks worse as the Hurricanes have now lost two straight. The Fighting Irish need to win out to make the CFP and maybe get a little bit of help as well.

This week: vs. Navy Midshipmen (7-1)

First Four Out- Group of Five

North Texas Mean Green (AAC) (8-1)

If Memphis isn’t able to defeat Memphis, North Texas could. They have lost to USF this season, but they have eight wins and have a great offense. It will be a battle in the American Conference to find out who will make the conference championship game.

This week: BYE

James Madison Dukes (Sun Belt) (7-1)

James Madison defeated Texas State to stay undefeated in the Sun Belt. The Dukes’ lone loss is to Louisville and if the American Conference starts falling apart, they have a chance to sneak into the CFP.

This week: at Marshall Thundering Herd (4-4)

San Diego State Aztecs (MWC) (7-1)

Sean Lewis has done a great job at SDSU, getting the Aztecs to 7-1 on the season. They lost to Washington State in their second game, but have won six straight and are atop the MWC standings.

This week: at Hawaii Rainbow Warriors (6-3)

Kennesaw State Owls (C-USA) (6-2)

After losing its first two games of the season to Wake Forest and Indiana, Kennesaw State is undefeated. The Owls have a chance to win the C-USA, even if the CFP is likely out of their reach.

This week: at New Mexico State Aggies (3-5)
