Each week teams will be fighting for position in an effort to make the College Football Playoff. The teams will be ranked each week, but what matters most is who they have played and beaten already on the field. Preseason rankings will not be taken into consideration here. Here is College Football Playoff Bracketology November 14.
1. Georgia Bulldogs (10-0)
Georgia pulled away in the second half against Tennessee and won 41-17. As the only power five team left with an unbeaten record, Georgia will remain in the top spot until they lose a game.
This week: vs. Charleston Southern Buccaneers (4-5 FCS)
2. Alabama Crimson Tide (9-1)
The Crimson Tide took care of business against New Mexico State. The win should keep them at number two in the rankings, but one more loss and they will be out of the CFP.
This week: vs. Arkansas Razorbacks ()
3. Ohio State Buckeyes (9-1)
Ohio State outscored an upset-minded Purdue team to get to 9-1 on the season. The win was over a team the CFP Committee ranked 19th. Last week, they ranked Michigan over Michigan State despite the head-to-head result. The same should happen for Ohio State and Oregon this week.
This week: vs. Michigan State Spartans (9-1)
4. Oregon Ducks (9-1)
Oregon defeated Washington State in week 11. They still have a very good win over Ohio State, but the Ducks don’t have much else on the resume that warrants them being in the top 3. The loss to Stanford, who now will not make a bowl game, hurts their case and ultimately moves them down a spot.
This week: at Utah Utes (7-3)
5. Michigan Wolverines (9-1)
Michigan won against a tough Penn State team this weekend. The committee will likely give them the nod over Cincinnati in the polls this week, as they have been talking about how complete of a football team the Wolverines are in the last few weeks. They really lack marquee wins, but that doesn’t seem to matter to the committee.
This week: at Maryland Terrapins (5-5)
6. Cincinnati Bearcats (10-0)
Cincinnati won by a decent margin over USF on Friday, 45-28, but it won’t be good enough for some. They are undefeated, but will need help to make the top four teams by the end of the year. The Bearcats need to take care of business against SMU in week 12.
This week: vs. SMU Mustangs (8-2)
7. Michigan State Spartans (9-1)
The Spartans won by 19 over Maryland, as they are keeping their CFP hopes alive. The win over Michigan should have them ranked over the Wolverines, as Michigan lacks quality wins, but the committee doesn’t seem to be valuing that. A lot will be settled in the next few weeks as the Spartans face the Buckeyes in week 12.
This week: at Ohio State Buckeyes (9-1)
8. Oklahoma State Cowboys (9-1)
Oklahoma State destroyed a TCU team that just upset Baylor in week 10. It was their most complete game of the season and may warrant them jumping Notre Dame this week, even with TCU not being the best team this year.
This week: at Texas Tech Red Raiders (6-4)
9. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (9-1)
The Fighting Irish drop a spot, but got a decent win over Virginia. The schedule hasn’t been the toughest for the Fighting Irish and there is a legitimate chance they finish the season with just one loss. If they do, they will likely be extremely close to the top four teams in the country.
This week: vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (3-7)
10. Wake Forest Demon Deacons (9-1)
Wake Forest notched a big win over a rankedNC State this weekend, which should move them back into the top 10. While they only have one loss, the Demon Deacons will need a lot of help to move up in the rankings.
This week: at Clemson Tigers (7-3)
11. Baylor Bears (8-2)
With a big win at home over Oklahoma, Baylor has set themselves up well to make a New Year’s Six Bowl and they stayed alive in the Big 12 Championship race.
This week: at Kansas State Wildcats (7-3)
12. Ole Miss Rebels (8-2)
Ole Miss hosted College Gameday and didn’t disappoint with their 29-19 win over Texas A&M. The Rebels are out of the CFP picture, but are still in play for a New Year’s Six Bowl game.
This week: vs. Vanderbilt Commodores (2-8)
