Each week teams will be fighting for position in an effort to make the College Football Playoff. The teams will be ranked each week, but what matters most is who they have played and defeated already on the field. Preseason rankings will not be taken into consideration here. Here is College Football Playoff Bracketology November 12.
1. Georgia Bulldogs (10-0)
Georgia can move into the top spot in these rankings after dominating Ole Miss. Not only do they pass the eye test, the Bulldogs now have a marquee win and have opportunities for more down the stretch.
This week: at Tennessee Volunteers (7-3)
2. Ohio State Buckeyes (10-0)
The Buckeyes had no issues defeating Michigan State. That win won’t do much for the resume, but they stay undefeated. They move down to the second spot, but their wins over Penn State and Notre Dame are still impressive.
This week: vs. Minnesota Golden Gophers (5-5)
3. Michigan Wolverines (10-0)
Michigan didn’t have Jim Harbaugh, but they still won on the road over Penn State. It was by far their best win of the season. Michigan stays at the third spot, but still has all their hopes ahead of them.
This week: at Maryland Terrapins (6-4)
4. Washington Huskies (10-0)
Washington just notched another ranked win, this time over Utah to help their case to be in the top four. The win gives them three ranked wins (at the time they played). Their resume warrants a move upward.
This week: at Oregon State Beavers (8-2)
5. Florida State Seminoles (10-0)
Florida State struggled with Miami, but eventually won by seven. The Seminoles stayed undefeated, but their big wins are behind them. LSU faltering to three losses has hurt them, as that is their top win.
This week: vs. North Alabama Lions(FCS)
6. Oregon Ducks (9-1)
Despite their resume not being as good as other teams on the list, Oregon has stayed ranked ahead of them and that mostly stems from their lone loss of the season being to Washington. A win over USC should be enough for the committee to keep Oregon at number six.
This week: at Arizona State Sun Devils (3-7)
7. Texas Longhorns (9-1)
Texas welcomed Quinn Ewers back to the starting lineup to help them defeat TCU. The win isn’t going to help them too much, but they still only have one loss, which keeps them in contention for the CFP.
This week: at Iowa State Cyclones (6-4)
8. Alabama Crimson Tide (9-1)
The Crimson Tide looked like one of the best teams in the country as they destroyed Kentucky. It was an ok win, but Alabama’s loss against Texas is holding them back in the rankings. The committee has been unwilling to rank Alabama over Texas and that is not likely to change yet.
This week: vs. Chattanooga Mocs (FCS)
9. Louisville Cardinals (9-1)
Things were close, but Louisville was able to defeat Virginia during the week. Staying with one loss is important for the Cardinals’ CFP hopes, but they are also going to need some help down the stretch.
This week: at Miami Hurricanes (6-4)
10. Oregon State Beavers (8-2)
Oregon State secured a victory over Stanford in week 11. They have just two losses, but their tough games are coming in the final two weeks of the season.
This week: vs. Washington Huskies (10-0)
11. Missouri Tigers (8-2)
A win over Tennessee has added to a very good season for Missouri. They are out of the CFP, but are still very much in play for a New Year’s Six Bowl Game.
This week: vs. Florida Gators (5-5)
12. Ole Miss Rebels (8-2)
Although they lost to Georgia, the Rebels still have some nice wins including one over LSU. That is good enough to stay in the top 12.
This week: vs. UL Monroe (2-8)
