College Football Playoff Bracketology December 20

Publish Date: December 19, 2020

College Football’s regular season is over. Each week teams fought for position in an effort to make the College Football Playoff. The teams will be ranked each week, but what matters most his who they have played and beaten already on the field. Preseason rankings will not be taken into consideration here. Here is College Football Playoff Bracketology December 20.

CFP Four

1. Alabama Crimson Tide (11-0)

Alabama won the SEC Championship and should retain their number one spot in the rankings.

2. Clemson Tigers (10-1)

Clemson beat Notre Dame when fully healthy, so they will move up to take the second spot in the rankings.

3. Ohio State Buckeyes (6-0)

It wasn’t a convincing win, but Ohio State beat Northwestern in the Big Ten Championship Game and will probably move up in the rankings so that a rematch between Notre Dame and Clemson can be avoided.

4. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (10-1)

Notre Dame moves down two spots after losing to Clemson, but they should still be in the CFP due to their win over Clemson earlier in the season.

5. Texas A&M Aggies (8-1)

Texas A&M needed a while to pull away from Tennessee, but they got their eighth win of the season. They will still likely be on the outside looking in for the CFP because of their lack of ranked wins.

6. Cincinnati Bearcats (9-0)

It’s unfortunate the Cincinnati couldn’t play a quality non-conference opponent this year. The Bearcats went undefeated, but will not have the quality wins to sway the CFP Committee this year. especially with being ranked ninth last year. The Bearcats will have to settle for a New Year’s Six Bowl.

7. Oklahoma Sooners (8-2)

The Sooners started the year off slow, so they won’t make the CFP. They did beat Iowa State who were ranked sixth, so the Sooners should move up quite a few spots from 10th overall. Oklahoma will be preparing for a New Year’s Six Bowl Game.

8. Georgia Bulldogs (8-2)

Georgia was off this week, but by virtue of other teams losing, they will likely keep their spot at number eight in the rankings.

Next Four Out

9. Iowa State Cyclones (8-3)

It was a great season for Iowa State, but a loss to Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship will move them down in the rankings. The Cyclones could still make a New Year’s Six Bowl Game.

10. Florida Gators (8-3)

Alabama was too much for Florida, but the Gators won’t fall too far for losing to the top team in the country.

11. Indiana Hoosiers (6-1)

Indiana was idle this week and with no one winning a game behind them in the standings, they should retain their spot.

12. Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (11-0)

The Sun Belt Championship Game was canceled. Coastal Carolina should stay at the 12th spot in the rankings.
