The College Football Hall of Fame opened in Atlanta in 2014. Since then it has been providing a unique experience to fans across the globe. Here is an inside look at the College Football Hall of Fame Experience.
As soon as patrons walk in, they will see a big wall of football helmets. This includes teams playing anywhere from Division I to the NAIA level of college football.
On the left-hand side, fans will be able to pick their favorite team to sign up for a personalized experience. On the ticket/badge that is received upon entry, there is a bar code that will now remember the favorite team for the rest of the experience. Doing so won’t limit the capabilities of being able to experience the museum fully if someone wants to follow multiple teams.
Once a favorite team is selected, their team helmet will light up on the wall so that people can pick it out among the hundreds of helmets on the wall.
On the third floor is where staff recommends starting the tour. There are several display cases worth of memorabilia in a hallway. One of the display cases features some of the legendary coach Bobby Dodd’s things.
After making their way through the hallway full of memorabilia, fans can see all of the players who have been enshrined in the Hall of Fame in a big circular room. On the sides of the room are all the players listed, so fans can go find their favorites among the other legends. It is sorted by induction year.
While the names of the players appear on the edges of the room, the middle features several kiosks. Fans can hold up their badges to the screen and all of the Hall of Famers from their favorite team appears. They will get to read a written bio and have the chance to watch a video highlight-reel with narrated monologue surrounding each player or coach.
If fans want to look at other members of the Hall of Fame at the kiosks, they can go look up inductees by the school or by induction class.
After spending all the time needed in the Hall of Fame room (the average seemed to be 45 minutes), fans can make their way down to the second floor. Initially, there will be some more display cases of memorabilia, which features some trophies of bowl games.
On the right, there is a theater that is currently showing a short film centered around the sounds of the game. It gives the fan the experience of a Saturday full of football across many different college campuses. With the surround sound kicking in, it will be easy to hear the big hits, cheers and other sounds that are heard during a game day.
After exiting the theater, there is a chance to have more interaction. There are several stations for which fans can use their badge and have some fun.
The first station allows fans to sing their college fight song. It might be a little intimidating doing it in front of so many people, but the good news is that a copy of it will be sent with your email (as will the results of the other stations).
Moving on down, there is a spot to do tailgating trivia, which asks questions about the specifics of several teams’ tailgating experiences. There is another station that allows fans to host a snippet and make a pick on the set of ESPN’s College GameDay.
As for physical activities, there are two stations that measure a fan’s verticle jump and 40-yard dash. The verticle jump is very straightforward. The 40-yard dash is about tapping feet as fast as possible (results will not be realistic, as the top score can be as low as a second). Fans ranking in the top five will have their name and favorite school on a leader board.
When fans are done with the interactive experience, they can see some of the mascot and cheerleader uniforms. They can then go on to see some of the uniforms throughout the history of college football. There is a spot where they can see some of the weight training info that teams use.
As move along, they can see an HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) section. There is also another interactive area where fans can do the play-by-play for some of the more famous plays in college football history.
On the first floor is a football field where kids can make catches, run and kick. There is also a gift shop on the first floor to commemorate the visit to the College Football Hall of Fame.
The College Football Hall of fame provides a unique experience for fans of all ages. It is a fitting 21st-century museum that helps educate and entertain all visitors. Anyone making the trip to Atlanta should make the journey over to the College Football Hall of Fame.
