Each week teams will be fighting for position in an effort to make the College Football Playoff. The teams will be ranked each week, but what matters most is who they have played and beaten already on the field. Preseason rankings will not be taken into consideration here. Here is College Football Playoff Bracketology November 7.
CFP Four
1. Georgia Bulldogs (9-0)
Things started off slow for the Bulldogs, but they finished strong against Missouri in week 10. The Bulldogs will stay in the top spot until they lose.
This week: at Tennessee Volunteers (5-4)
2. Alabama Crimson Tide (8-1)
The Crimson Tide struggled against LSU. Their resume doesn’t exactly warrant being a top two team in the country, but the CFP Committee put them there last week and it is unlikely they will fall after their win. Their win over Ole Miss is the best thing they have going for them this year, but they still have a few big games remaining.
This week: vs. New Mexico State Aggies (1-8)
3. Oregon Ducks (8-1)
With Michigan State losing, the Ducks should move up a spot in the CFP rankings. With the committee being inconsistent, that can’t be guaranteed. Oregon defeated Washington in primetime for week 10. The Ducks beating Ohio State head to head is still bolstering their resume.
This week: vs. Washington State Cougars (5-4)
4. Ohio State Buckeyes (8-1)
Ohio State let Nebraska hang around far too long and ended up winning by nine. Due to the Michigan State loss, the Buckeyes move into the top four, even if it is in lackluster fashion. Their best win is over Penn State, who was unranked by the CFP committee in the first week of rankings, but may rejoin the rankings soon.
This week: vs. Purdue Boilermakers (6-3)
First Four Out
5. Cincinnati Bearcats (9-0)
Cincinnati needs style points to impress the CFP Committee, but that wasn’t on display against Tulsa. They won the game 28-20. The Bearcats also move up after Michigan State lost. Cincinnati will need some help still to make the CFP, but there is still a lot of football left.
This week: at USF Bulls (2-7)
6. Michigan State Spartans (8-1)
With a win over a team that was also ranked in the top 10 by the CFP Committee, it is hard to imagine Michigan State falling too far this week. The loss to Purdue will sting, but the Spartans still likely control their own destiny if they win out.
This week: vs. Maryland Terrapins (5-4)
7. Michigan Wolverines (8-1)
Beating Indiana won’t help the Wolverines move up in the rankings. They will likely stay at number seven, right behind Michigan State, who they lost to in week 9. The Wolverines have a few tough games left to navigate through.
This week: at Penn State Nittany Lions (6-3)
8. Oklahoma Sooners (9-0)
Oklahoma was on a bye this week. After being ranked eighth last week, there is no reason to move the Sooners up this week, but they do play some tough games down the stretch, which will give them the opportunity to move up.
This week: at Baylor Bears (7-2)
Next Four Out
9. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (8-1)
Wake Forest losing allows the Fighting Irish to move up. They defeated Navy to extend their win total to eight. The Fighting Irish still lack good wins, but could keep moving up with teams ahead of them losing.
This week: at Virginia Cavaliers (6-3)
10. Texas A&M Aggies (7-2)
It wasn’t the flashiest game, but the Aggies got the job done against Auburn. The ranked win should move Texas A&M up a couple of spots, but the two losses hold them back from really being contenders this season.
This week: at Ole Miss Rebels (7-2)
11. Oklahoma State Cowboys (8-1)
After giving up three points early, Oklahoma State scored 24 straight to defeat West Virginia. Because Texas A&M got a big win, they were jumped in the rankings, but the Cowboys still have plenty of time to move up.
This week: vs. TCU Horned Frogs (4-5)
12. Ole Miss Rebels (7-2)
Teams are thinning themselves out near the end of these rankings. Ole Miss beat Liberty on Saturday. While they are out of contention for the CFP, the Rebels are still very much in play for a New Year’s Six Bowl Game.
This week: vs. Texas A&M Aggies (7-2)
