Bob Stoops announced to KWTV in Oklahoma City that he would be accepting a job with the XFL’s new Dallas franchise as a head coach and general manager.
Stoops told KWTV, “It’ll be challenging for sure. If it wasn’t, I wouldn’t do it. And if it’s not fun I won’t do it. But I respect the guys running things. But this is ‘real football.’ If it was something goofy or have those old goofy names, I wouldn’t be associated with it”
Stoops retired as Oklahoma’s head coach before the 2017 season and hasn’t coached since. He has the most wins in Oklahoma’s history with a 190-48 record and also won a National Championship in 2000.
The XFL is expected to announce Stoops as the head coach and general manager in the afternoon tomorrow with Commissioner and CEO Oliver Luck in attendance.
The new XFL will start play in 2020.
