Aranda is coming off a season where he helped LSU win a national championship. While the offense got most of the publicity, the defense also played well, as they only allowed 21.2 points per game.
The 43-year-old has had stops at Texas Tech, Houston, Hawaii, Utah State and Wisconsin before going to LSU. His early ties in Texas should help him recruit the state.
Aranda takes over for Matt Rhule, who just led the Bears to an 11-win season and a Sugar Bowl appearance before taking the head coaching job with the Carolina Panthers.
