College football is back in full swing. There are always things to watch every week of the season. Here are 5 things to watch in college football week 11.
1. Alabama at LSU Elimination Game
Alabama and LSU each have two losses this season and are now meeting. The winner of this game stays in the CFP race, but the loser would be on the outside looking in and need a lot of help to re-enter the picture. Alabama vs. LSU usually had implications for who would make the four-team CFP. Now that it has expanded, the game still has potential to impact the CFP even with the teams having losses.
Alabama has had success at both sides of the ball, but it has been inconsistent. They score 37.6 points per game and allow just 18.6, but getting both units to play well in the same game has been an issue. LSU has a good passing attack, which totals 332.8 yards per game, helping them average 35.8 points per game. Their defense has had their issues, but they allow 22.8 points per game. LSU is at home and could have the edge, but anything can happen when Alabama and LSU meet.
2. Georgia at Ole Miss
Georgia has just one loss this season and still has the SEC Championship in their sights. They haven’t looked their best over the last several weeks. The offense scores 34.9 points per game, but starting quarterback Carson Beck has been throwing a lot of interceptions in the last few weeks. Their defense allows just 17.3 points per game and has kept them in games when the offense turns the ball over.
This week, Georgia plays Ole Miss. While the Rebels have two losses this season, to Kentucky and LSU, they still have CFP aspirations. A loss in this game might end those. The offense has been high-powered, as they score 46.3 points per game. There have been times when the offense has stalled, which could happen against Georgia. Their defense has been very impressive, as they allow just 13.6 points per game. They have the talent to compete with Georgia, but frequently struggle in this type of game.
3. Colorado’s CFP Chances
As a result of other teams losing in week 10, Colorado has a pretty clear path to the College Football Playoff. They currently have just two losses on the season, with one coming in Big 12 play. That ties them for second place in the Big 12 with Iowa State. The rest of the regular season features games that the Buffaloes have the talent to win: at Texas Tech, vs. Utah, at Kansas and vs. Oklahoma State.
This week, Colorado plays Texas Tech. The Red Raiders have just two-losses in the Big 12, which keeps their Big 12 Championship hopes alive as well. They score 37.8 points per game and will test Colorado at home. With Colorado written off early this season, the Buffaloes can really improve their CFP chances with a win.
4. Michigan at Indiana
Michigan has had a rough season, as they have struggled on offense. They are 5-4 despite having great talent on the roster. Recently, the offense has played a little better. Davis Warren has been starting at quarterback, while Alex Orji has been inserted into the game to help the team run the ball. They have more talent on the roster than Indiana so they could make it a game.
Indiana is now 9-0 and look like they can make the CFP. The Hoosiers have the number one scoring offense in college football at 49 points per game. Their defense also hasn’t received enough credit, as they allow 13.7 points per game. Winning this game would really help their CFP case, as after that they have just Ohio State and Purdue left on the schedule.
5. Holy War
The records can be thrown out in a rivalry game. BYU is undefeated and the road team in a game against Utah, which makes them vulnerable. The Cougars has rallied behind the play of quarterback Jake Retzlaff, who is leading the team to scoring 35.1 points per game. Their defense allows 19.6 points per game and has helped them win games as well.
This season hasn’t gone as planned for Utah. Starting quarterback Cam Rising has been hurt and is now out for season, which has led to the Utes sliding to a 4-4 record. They won their first four games and lost their last four, but they are coming off a bye, so they could be more prepared to play BYU. With them being the home team, watch out for a close game. Utah quarterback Isaac Wilson is the younger brother of former BYU quarterback Zach Wilson, adding an extra layer to this rivalry game this season.
