1. Texas A&M is a CFP Contender
Texas A&M was down early, but they were able to come back and defeat LSU. The win keeps Texas A&M undefeated in the SEC, with their only loss of the season coming in their opener against Notre Dame. With the 17-point win, Texas A&M could have a lot of good things in their future.
On their schedule, Texas A&M will be favored in every game until the finale against Texas. If they win all their games, or only lose to Texas, they will likely make the CFP. Even if they make the SEC Championship with the one loss to Texas, a loss in Atlanta shouldn’t penalize them too much in the CFP Committee’s eyes.
2. Missouri Out of the CFP
Missouri was projected to lose by more than two touchdowns to Alabama. That would have been better as the Tigers lost 34-0. The season hasn’t been great for Missouri, despite them only having two losses. With this loss, they are likely out of the running for the CFP.
After getting a double-digit win season, expectations were high for Missouri. They now have losses to Alabama and Texas A&M. They will likely lose at least one more game this season, but even if they don’t it will be hard to get enough good will from the CFP Committee to get into the dance.
3. Ohio State-Penn State Will be Interesting in Week 10
Ohio State and Penn State was projected to be one of the more intriguing games of the season. Now it may be interesting for different reasons. Ohio State really struggled against Nebraska in week 9. Their offensive line didn’t look good and they seemed afraid to open up the offense. There should be doubts about whether Ohio State can go on the road and defeat Penn State.
The Nittany Lions should have their own doubts as well. They have struggled to win big games in their recent history, but now there is an added layer of toughness to this game. Although they defeated Wisconsin in week 9, starting quarterback Drew Allar left the game with an injury. He will likely not be 100 percent even when if he can suit up against the Buckeyes.
4. Oregon is the Clear No. 1
Oregon was thought to be the number one team after they defeated Ohio State at home. They have played well after that point as well, winning their next two games. In week 9, Oregon played a ranked Illinois team and took care of business. It looks like they may not have to sweat out a game the rest of the regular season.
The Ducks started the season slowly, even struggling with Idaho at home, but they have picked things up quickly. With games against Michigan, Maryland, Wisconsin and Washington left on the schedule, it is likely Oregon stays the top team in the country for some time moving forward.
5. Boise State Stays in the Driver’s Seat For the CFP Group of Five Spot
On Friday night, the biggest game of the group of five season took place. Boise State traveled to UNLV and won by a slim margin. The winner of this game would be in the driver’s seat to make the CFP as the fifth-highest-ranked conference champion. Boise got the job done and maintained their spot.
There is a chance these two teams meet up again in the MWC Championship Game and play for a spot in the CFP. Boise State has one game against a team that is over .500 the rest of the way. That really increases their odds of making the CFP.
