College football week 6 is in the books. After every week fans can take away things from what happened on the field. Here are 5 things learned from college football week 6.

1. UCLA is For Real

UCLA was undefeated before heading into their game this week against Oregon. They were not tested before this game. The Bruins played some power conference teams, but ran right through them. Playing at Oregon would be a test and the Bruins were able to pass. UCLA was in a rock fight in the first half, but took the lead and were able to hang on to win 17-15.

While Oregon was not at full strength with Dante Moore out, it is still an impressive win. It also sets up the Bruins to have a solid rest of the season. They still play Wisconsin, Michigan State, Nevada, Minnesota, Illinois and USC the rest of the way. UCLA will be favored in most if not all of their games. The Bruins could crash the CFP in the first year under Bob Chesney.

2. Oklahoma has Some Life

Oklahoma entered Week 6 as a 2-2 team with losses to Michigan and Georgia. While the loss to Georgia was understandable, dropping a game to Michigan was a head-scratcher. With a tough schedule the rest of the way, early-season CFP hopes were on life support very quickly and playing No. 1 Texas wasn’t supposed to help that. Oklahoma responded, though, beating Texas 27-24 on a walkoff field goal.

It is still a bit of an uphill battle for Oklahoma to reach preseason expectations. They still play Kentucky, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Florida, Ole Miss and Missouri. Four of those teams are currently ranked. The Sooners will have to play well and likely get more output from their offense, but they have a lot more hope than they did heading into the week.

3. Indiana Still has Some Work to do

Indiana has been winning this season, as they are still undefeated, but it hasn’t come as easily as last season when they won the whole thing. Sure, they’ve blown out some non-power conference teams and Rutgers. But they struggled against Northwestern and even in their blowouts, haven’t had things run as smoothly. That happened again in Week 6, as the Hoosiers narrowly escaped against Nebraska with a 20-17 win.

The Hoosiers aren’t playing the most efficient football when they go up against the better competition. Josh Hoover only completed 12 passes and a lot of his yardage was picked up by Nick Marsh after the catch. The Hoosiers ran for just 65 yards against Nebraska. While giving credit to Nebraska is needed, Indiana may not survive undefeated much longer with this play. They play Ohio State in Week 7.

4. Will Stein is a Good Head Coach

Kentucky hired Oregon’s offensive coordinator Will Stein as their head coach this past offseason. He had success with the Ducks and notably said Kentucky would win because of him this offseason. It seemed like the Wildcats would be improved, but Stein has delivered on his promise early in his tenure. Coming into Week 6, the Wildcats were 4-1 with their only loss being to Alabama. They defeated LSU in overtime 35-34.

It was a game that featured two missed field goals by Kentucky, that really could have cost them. Kentucky was able to make a field goal to send things into overtime. After allowing a touchdown, Kentucky scored one of their own. And for the second-straight week, they went for two and the win. Quarterback Kenny Minchey ran a quarterback draw into the end zone without defenders being in the middle of the field to stop him. Stein had some adversity in the game and still was able to overcome it and get the win. Kentucky has made a good hire early, but there are still some tough games ahead.

5. Georgia is the Best Team in the Country

Georgia came into the week undefeated, but also hadn’t played the toughest schedule so far this season. They had wins over Arkansas, Vanderbilt and an Oklahoma team that was struggling at the time. This week, they traveled to Tuscaloosa to play Alabama. In a game impacted by the weather, they were able to secure a victory, 20-17.

With their win and Texas losing, Georgia will be ranked as the top team in the country. Things can change this season, but Georgia has proven to be the best team this season. Not only did they get a big win, but they came into the game with the top offense in the country and a defense that ranked in the top 12. They were able to get a great win on the road to boost their resume. The Bulldogs will be a tough team to knock off from this perch.
