5 Things Learned From College Football Week 6

Publish Date: October 11, 2020

College football week 6 is in the books. After every week fans can take away things from what happened on the field. Here are five things learned from college football week 6.

1. Clemson: Still the Top of the ACC

Miami looked good heading into this week. Their offense was rolling and it looked like they could be contenders in the ACC. While they may still be a solid team in the ACC, Clemson proved that most teams in the conference are far off from competing with the Tigers.

Clemson won their game with Miami 42-17, which cemented their dominance over the ACC. Not only did the Tigers score a lot of points, but they also were able to limit Miami’s high-powered offense. It looks like Clemson is well on their way to another CFP appearance.

2. Georgia: The Kings of the SEC East

Georgia had a big matchup with Tennessee this week and came out on top. It started off very close, but the Bulldogs were able to pull away late, which seems to be a theme for them this season. They won the game 44-21, which made a statement.

Coming into the season, the SEC East was seen as a two-team race between Florida and Georgia. Georgia has dealt with a tough schedule, a mess of a quarterback situation and more to win all of their games. Florida lost this week at Texas A&M, which helps prove that Georgia is a little ahead Florida in the SEC East.

3. Jimbo’s Team isn’t too far off

As mentioned, Texas A&M got a big upset win over Florida. It was Jimbo Fisher’s biggest win as a head coach. In a great performance, the Aggies won 41-38 against the fourth-ranked team in the country, behind a great day from quarterback Kellen Mond.

After losing to Alabama, it appeared as if Texas A&M was going to fade into another seven or eight win season, which has been a staple for the team since they joined the SEC. Fisher is only in his third season with the team and it looks they are on their way to seriously competing in the SEC West.

4. LSU is not Good

It is the season after LSU won the National Championship and they have already gone from an elite team to a not-so-good one in a very short amount of time. They have one win over Vanderbilt and this week, lost their second game of the season to Missouri.

The LSU offense has still put up a lot of points, but their defense has really been lacking. They have given up over 40 points in two of their three contests to start the season. While they lost some players to the pros and to opt outs, this performance shows just how bad the season can be if the defense continues to play this poorly.

5. Lane Kiffin is Doing Great at Ole Miss

With one of the more splash hires of the offseason, Ole Miss hired Lane Kiffin from FAU. Kiffin has been an eccentric person in the sport of football for years now and came into a job that looked like it would take years to rebuild.

It may have been one game, but Ole Miss played Alabama tough this weekend. That kind of outing is huge though to show how good of a coach Kiffin is for Ole Miss. It may take some time before they start winning these types of games, but Kiffin is off to a good start even if they have one win so far.
