The 2025 Wasabi Fenway Bowl features the 9-3 UConn Huskies and the 6-6 Army Black Knights. Here is the 2025 Wasabi Fenway Bowl Preview.
UConn won nine games this season to make their second straight bowl game. They defeated two bowl-eligible teams this season: Florida International and Duke. They lost to two teams that didn’t qualify for a bowl game, Syracuse and Rice. Head coach Jim Mora Jr. has accepted the Colorado State job.
The Huskies score 36.9 points per game, ranking 12th in the country. They pass for 301.1 yards (ranked sixth) and rush for 159 yards (ranked 68th) per game.
Joe Fagnano was the starting quarterback for UConn this season, but he is reportedly sitting out. Nick Evers should be in line to start after passing for 105 yards and a touchdown this season. Five players have over 200 receiving yards on the season for the Huskies. Leading receiver Skyler Bell is reportedly sitting out of the bowl game. That means Reymello Murphy is the top receiver for the Huskies now after having 33 catches for 404 yards and three touchdowns.
Cam Edwards leads the rushing attack for the Huskies. He is in the transfer portal, but will reportedly still play after rushing for 1,132 yards and 14 touchdowns. Behind him Mel Brown has been productive, but he is in the transfer portal.
On defense, they allow 25.17 points per game, ranking 74th in the country. They concede 185.5 rushing yards (ranked 114th) and 227.7 passing yards (tied 83rd) per game. Bryun Parham leads the team with 116 total tackles. He also has 10.5 sacks, which paces the team. D’Mon Brinson has made plays on the ball with six passes defended and one interception.
The Black Knights won six games to go to their second-straight bowl game. They defeated two teams that went at least .500: Kansas State and UTSA. They lost one game to FCS-level Tarleton State and another to Tulsa, who didn’t make a bowl game.
Army scores 22.4 points per game, tying them for 103rd in the country. They pass for 78.6 yards (ranked 134th) and rush for 245.5 yards (ranked sixth) per game.
Cale Hellums has operated the triple option at quarterback for Army. He has passed for 586 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions on 50.6 percent completion. Two players have over 300 receiving yards on the season. Brady Anderson has been a big play threat with 14 catches for 381 yards and two touchdowns. Noah Short has caught 25 passes for 330 yards and one touchdown.
Five players have at least 200 rushing yards on the season. Hellums leads the team from the quarterback position with 1,178 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns. Short has 556 rushing yards and a touchdown on the season. At running back, Hayden Reed and Briggs Bartosh have chipped in with 335 and 246 rushing yards apiece.
The Black Knights’ defense concedes 22.08 points per game, tying for 45th in the country. They give up 150.7 rushing yards (tied 70th) and 199.2 passing yards (ranked 39th) per game. The leading tackler has been Andon Thomas with 107. Jack Bousum and Eric Ford pace the team with 4.5 sacks each. Collin Matteson has been good in the secondary with seven passes defended and one interception.
UConn will be down some playmakers, but they had extra time to prepare for the triple-option attack by Army. If they can move the ball a decent amount in the air, they can win the game.
