The 2025 SERVPRO First Responder Bowl features the 7-5 Florida International Panthers and the 6-6 UTSA Roadrunners. Here is the 2025 SERVPRO First Responder Bowl Preview.
Florida International won seven games to make their first bowl game since 2019. They defeated two bowl-eligible teams this season: Jacksonville State and Western Kentucky. All five of their losses were to teams that made bowl games: Penn State, UConn, Delaware, Kennesaw State and Missouri State.
The Panthers score 29.2 points per game, tying them for 55th in the nation. They pass for 218.7 yards (ranked 77th) and rush for 190.2 yards (ranked 28th) per game.
Keyone Jenkins has battled injuries this season, but has been able to start most games. He has passed for 1,693 yards, nine touchdowns and five interceptions on 63.1 percent completion. Five receivers have at least 200 yards on the season. Alex Perry has been the standout with 816 receiving yards and nine touchdowns.
Two running backs have taken the bulk of the workload for the Panthers. Kejon Owens leads the team with 1,298 yards and 11 touchdowns. Behind him, Anthony Carrie has helped out with 447 yards and five touchdowns.
Defensively, they allow 27.8 points per game, ranking 88th in the country. They concede 159.6 rushing yards (ranked 83rd) and 246.3 passing yards (ranked 113th) per game. Johnny Chaney Jr. has led the team in tackles with 99. Kenton Simmons has shown a proficiency at getting after the quarterback with six sacks. Mister Clark has made a lot of plays on the ball with 13 passes defended and three interceptions. He is in the transfer portal so other players will have to step up.
The Roadrunners won six games to make their sixth-straight bowl game. They defeated two bowl-eligible teams this season: Tulane and East Carolina. Their lone loss to a team that didn’t make a bowl game was to Temple.
UTSA scores 33.8 points per game, ranking 23rd in the country. They pass for 243.7 yards (ranked 52nd) and rush for 169.9 yards (tied 56th) per game.
Owen McCown returned at quarterback for the Roadrunners. He has passed for 2,700 yards, 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions on 67.8 percent completion. Five pass-catchers have over 250 receiving yards this season for the Roadrunners. Devin McCuin leads the team with 59 receptions for 653 yards and seven touchdowns. AJ Wilson and David Amador II have both been impressive too, as they have 504 and 443 receiving yards, respectively.
Two running backs carry the load for the rushing attack. Robert Henry Jr. has amassed 1,045 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. His backup, Will Henderson III, has contributed 807 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
The Roadrunners’ defense gives up 29.58 points per game, ranking 98th in the country. They allow 155.5 rushing yards (ranked 77th) and 226.6 passing yards (ranked 80th) per game. Shad Banks Jr. has racked up 87 total tackles. Nnanna Anyanwu has the team-high with 5.5 sacks. Jimmy Wyrick has played well in the secondary with eight passes defended.
With starting quarterback Keyone Jenkins back, FIU’s offense should improve a bit. While they may not be able to win the game, they should be able to make it a shootout with UTSA.
