Central Michigan Chippewas

Central Michigan won seven games to make their first bowl game since 2021. They defeated no bowl-eligible teams on the year. Their only loss to a team that didn’t make a bowl game was to Akron.

Tommy McIntosh and Tyson Davis have aided the passing attack with 401 and 270 yards, respectively.

Four players lead the Chippewas’ rushing attack. Nahree Biggins leads the team with 540 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Backup quarterback Angel Flores had 519 rushing yards and eight touchdowns, but he has been injured. Trey Cornist and Brock Townsend have also been productive with 404 and 394 rushing yards apiece.

Defensively, the Chippewas concede 22.67 points per game, ranking 51st in the country. They allow 207.2 passing yards (ranked 50th) and 151.4 rushing yards (ranked 73rd) per game. Jordan Kwiatkowski has led the team in tackles with 105. Michael Heldman has been great at getting after the quarterback with 10.5 sacks. Jaion Jackson has made plays on the ball with seven passes defended and one interception.

Northwestern Wildcats

The Wildcats won six games this season to make their first bowl game since 2023. They defeated two bowl-eligible teams this season: Penn State and Minnesota. All six of their losses were to teams that made bowl games: Tulane, Oregon, Nebraska, USC, Michigan and Illinois.

Northwestern scores 22.5 points per game, ranking 102nd in the FBS. They rush for 167.1 yards (ranked 60th) and pass for 181.8 yards (ranked 109th) per game.

SMU transfer Preston Stone has manned the quarterback position for the Wildcats. He has passed for 2,174 yards, 14 touchdowns and 12 interceptions on 59.9 percent completion. Three players have over 250 receiving yards on the season. Griffin Wilde leads the team with 61 catches for 783 yards and six touchdowns. Hayden Eligon II and Hunter Welcing played well with 476 and 283 receiving yards, respectively.

Three running backs have produced a decent amount for the Wildcats. Caleb Komolafe leads the team with 886 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. Joseph Himon II and Dashun Reeder have chipped in with 486 and 222 rushing yards apiece.

The Wildcats’ defense allows 20.92 points per game, ranking 34th in the country. They give up 194.8 passing yards (ranked 32nd) and 140 rushing yards (tied 53rd) per game.  Robert Fitzgerald has the team-high with 109 tackles. Aidan Hubbard leads the pass rush with 4.5 sacks. Josh Fussell did great things in the secondary with nine passes defended.

Prediction

Northwestern’s defense won’t give up much ground to Central Michigan. The Wildcats should be able to move the ball on the ground and win the game, despite having some banged-up running backs.
