The 2025 Boca Raton Bowl features the 8-4 Toledo Rockets and the 8-4 Louisville Cardinals. Here is the 2025 Boca Raton Bowl Preview.
Toledo won eight games to qualify for their fifth-straight bowl game, although they haven’t had a losing season since 2009. They have three wins over bowl-eligible teams this season: Western Kentucky, Miami (Ohio) and Central Michigan. Two of their losses were to teams that didn’t qualify for a bowl game: Kentucky and Bowling Green. Head coach Jason Candle has left for the UConn job.
The Rockets score 31.6 points per game, ranking 39th in the country. They pass for 244 yards (ranked 51st) and rush for 177.8 yards (ranked 44th) per game.
Tucker Gleason has been the starting quarterback for the Rockets this season. He has passed for 2,515 yards, 21 touchdowns and nine interceptions on 64.7 percent completion. Four players have at least 200 receiving yards on the year. Junior Vandeross III has the team lead with 75 receptions for 947 yards and 11 touchdowns. Former Northern Illinois Huskie Trayvon Rudolph has helped with 38 catches for 423 yards and two touchdowns.
Chip Trayanum has bounced around the college football world during his career, but has been the most productive at Toledo, as he totaled 950 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. Kenji Christian has provided a good second-option, as he has amassed 501 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Backup quarterback Kalieb Osborne is the only other player with over 200 rushing yards, as he has 205 on the year.
The Rockets have one of the best defenses in the country, ranking fourth in the country at 12.2 points per game allowed. They concede 89.3 rushing yards (ranked eighth) and 158.4 passing yards (ranked eighth) per game. K’Von Sherman has led the team in tackles with 85. Martez Poynter and Malachi Davis are tied for the team lead with 5.5 sacks. Safety Emmanuel McNeil-Warren has some NFL potential in the secondary with five passes defended and two interceptions on the year.
The Cardinals won eight games to make their fifth-straight bowl game. They defeated three teams who qualified for a bowl game this season: James Madison, Pittsburgh and Miami. They lost one game to a team that didn’t make a bowl game: California. Louisville scores 30.2 points per game, tying for 46th in the country.
They pass for 226.2 yards (ranked 65th) and rush for 162.6 yards (ranked 65th) per game. USC transfer Miller Moss has played quarterback for the Cardinals this season. He has passed for 2,526 yards, 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions on 64 percent completion. Three players have over 200 receiving yards on the season. Chris Bell has been a star for the Cardinals, as he has 72 catches for 917 yards and six touchdowns, but he tore his ACL and won’t play. Caullin Lacy and Dacari Collins have also been impactful with 547 and 219 receiving yards, respectively.
Three running backs have at least 200 rushing yards on the season for the Cardinals. Isaac Brown has rushed for 782 yards on 8.6 yards per attempt to lead the backfield. Keyjuan Brown and Braxton Jennings have 592 and 200 rushing yards apiece to help the Cardinals’ ground attack.
The Cardinals’ defense gives up 21.1 points per game, ranking 35th in the country. They allow 109.8 rushing yards (ranked 22nd) and 190.6 passing yards (ranked 28th) per game. TJ Quinn has the team-high with 87 total tackles. Clev Lubin paces the team with seven sacks. Tayon Holloway has made plays in the secondary with five passes defended and two interceptions.
Toledo’s defense has been great all season long, but they did give up more than 20 points in three of their four losses. Louisville has playmakers that will make it tough for Toledo to make this a low-scoring game. The Cardinals should win by a decent margin.
