2022 Armed Forces Bowl Preview

The 2022 Armed Forces Bowl features the 6-6 Baylor Bears against the 9-3 Air Force Falcons. Here is the 2022 Armed Forces Bowl preview.

Baylor Bears (6-6)

Baylor won six games to make their second-straight bowl game. Their three wins over bowl-eligible teams came over Kansas, Texas Tech and Oklahoma. Their lone loss to a team that didn’t make a bowl game came to West Virginia.



The Bears score 33.9 points per game, ranking tying them for 31st in the country. They pass for 235.1 yards (ranked 61st) and rush for 194.1 yards per game (ranked 34th).

Blake Shapen took over the reins of the quarterback position this season and has played decently. He has passed for 2,602 yards, 16 touchdowns and 10 interceptions on 64.3 percent completion. Five receivers have over 200 yards on the season. The leading receiver is Monaray Baldwin who has 33 catches for 565 yards and four touchdowns. Gavin Holmes has also been good this season with 22 receptions for 470 yards and three touchdowns.

Three running backs have over 400 rushing yards. Richard Reese was the team’s leading rusher with 962 yards and 14 touchdowns. Craig Williams and Quaian Jones have been good changes of pace with 532 and 448 yards respectively.



Their defense gives up 26.8 points per game, tying them for 65th in the FBS. They allow 137.6 rushing yards (tied for 44th) and 232.8 passing yards per game (ranked 80th). Safety Al Walcott has led the team in tackles with 80 and also has five passes defended. Garmon Randolph and Gabe Hall are tied for the team lead with 4.5 sacks.

Air Force Falcons (9-3)

The Falcons won nine games, which qualified them for their second-straight bowl game. They defeated one bowl team in the San Diego State. All losses, to Wyoming, Utah State and Boise State, were to teams who qualified for a bowl game.

Air Force scores 27.7 points per game, ranking 73rd in the country. They pass for 67.8 yards (ranked 131st) and rush for 330.9 yards per game (ranked first).

Haaziq Daniels is an experienced quarterback for the Falcons who has 733 passing yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions on 47.4 percent completion. Two receivers have over 100 yards on the season. David Cormier is the leading receiver with 13 catches for 384 yards and four touchdowns.

Four players have over 250 rushing yards this season. Brad Roberts has 1,612 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns. John Lee Eldridge III is second on the team with 701 yards and four touchdowns. Daniels has been productive from the quarterback position with 614 yards and seven touchdowns.

Their defense allows 13.3 points per game, which ranks them third in the country. They concede 99.8 rushing yards (ranked 9th) and 156.7 yards per game (ranked 2nd). TD Blackmon, Tre Taylor and Alec Mock each have over 60 tackles on the season. Vince Sanford has a team-high 5.5 sacks. Camby Goff has nine passes defended and three passes defended on the year.

Prediction

Baylor will be a better offense than Air Force has seen for most of the season. Shapen will have a solid game and help Baylor win.
