Texas Longhorns (8-4)
Texas won eight games to make their first bowl game since 2020. They won five games against bowl-eligible teams: UTSA, Oklahoma, Kansas State, Kansas and Baylor. All four of their losses, to Alabama, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and TCU, were to teams who made bowl games.
The Longhorns average 35.7 points per game, ranking them 20th in the country. They average 230.8 passing yards (ranked 64th) and 199.6 rushing yards per game (ranked 27th).
Heralded recruit and Ohio State transfer Quinn Ewers has started when healthy for the Longhorns. He has 1,808 passing yards, 14 touchdowns and six interceptions on 56.6 percent completion. Four players had at least 300 receiving yards on the season. Xavier Worthy and Jordan Whittington each have over 600 receiving yards. Worthy leads the team with nine touchdown catches.
Leading running backs Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson have opted out of this game. Jonathan Brooks has 179 yards on the season with four touchdowns. He will likely handle most of the work.
Their defense gives up 21.2 points per game, ranking 30th in the country. They allow 123 rushing yards (ranked 28th) and 239 passing yards per game (ranked 90th). Jaylen Ford has led the team with 109. Barren Sorrell leads the team with 5.5 sacks. D’Shawn Jamison has been a standout in the secondary with seven passes defended and two interceptions.
Washington Huskies (10-2)
The Huskies won 10 games to make their first bowl game since 2019. They defeated Oregon State, Oregon and Washington State, all of which qualified for a bowl game. One of their two losses was to Arizona State, who did not make a bowl game.
Washington scores 40.8 points per game, which is tied for fourth in the FBS. The Huskies pass for 376.7 yards (ranked first) and rush for 145 yards per game (ranked 71st).
Indiana transfer Michael Penix has been a star for the Huskies. he passed for 4,354 yards, 29 touchdowns and seven interceptions on 66 percent completion. Eight players have at least 200 receiving yards on the season. Rome Odunze and Jalen McMillan each had over 1,000 yards this season.
Two running backs have at least 200 rushing yards. Wayne Taulapapa leads the team with 779 rushing yards and also has 10 touchdowns. Cameron Davis has helped out with 522 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns.
Defensively, the Huskies allow 26.3 points per game, which is tied for 63rd in the country. They concede 127 rushing yards (ranked 33rd) and 241.8 passing yards per game (ranked 91st). Safety Alex Cook leads the team with 77 total tackles. Jeremiah Martin has a team-high with 8.5 sacks. Dominique Hampton has four passes defended in the secondary.
Prediction
Washington has a high-powered offense and should have most of their players in this game. The Huskies can pull off the upset with Texas lacking some of their offensive fire power.
