The college football season is here. Every week, different news and notes will pop up, which will affect what happens on the field and off it. Here are the college football week 1 news and notes.
Virginia Tech has named Ethan Grunkemeyer the starting quarterback. He is a Penn State transfer who passed for 1,339 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions on 69.1 percent completion in 11 games played. At Virginia Tech, he is reuniting with James Franklin.
Clemson will start Christopher Vizzina at quarterback to start the season. Dabo Swinney noted that it will not be a “lifetime contract” for Vizzina. He beat out Tait Reynolds for the job, who may end up playing as well.
Western Kentucky will start Rodney Tisdale Jr. at quarterback this season. He started down the stretch for the Hilltoppers last season and beat out Florida State transfer Brock Glenn for the position.
Jayden Mandal has won the starting quarterback job at Fresno State. He has passed for 39 yards and two interceptions in his career.
