Texas Tech head basketball coach Chris Beard has accepted the head coaching position at Texas according to Jon Rothstein.
Beard spent five seasons as head coach of Texas Tech and one year at Arkansas Little-Rock. He has a record of 112-55 as a head coach. At Arkansas Little-Rock, Beard made the NCAA Tournament in his lone season. He made three tournaments with Texas Tech, which included a National Championship Game appearance in 2019.
At Texas, Beard will take over for Shaka Smart, who took the Marquette job in March. Smart had some regular season success, but struggled to advance in the NCAA Tournament.
