Publish Date: February 4, 2023

The Seattle University Redhawks looked to be bounced after losing two games in a row falling to second in the Western Athletic Conference behind Utah Valley State. They ended up losing 83-68

The matchup between the two teams was electric right out of the gate. Seattle U was aggressive driving to the basket on their first with Alex Schumaker. Which was followed by a three from Abeline Christian University (ACU) hitting a three of their own.

Seattle U battled it out in the first half as they had ups and downs. More specifically, they had sloppy turnovers but turned it around with nice ball movement leading to open shots and beautiful possessions. ACU was beating Seattle U with their interior scoring and outside shooting. They had an eight-point leading 26-18 at 9:14. It was at that point where Seattle U got hot they went on an 11-4 run and two minutes later they were back within one point. Seattle U continued to stay hot, and with less than two minutes in the half, they hit six of their last seven shots. Riley Grigsby was their guy in the first half. At the end of the first half, they were up by five and out rebound Abeline Christian by seven. A great way to end the first half for Seattle U.

At the start of the second half, ACU was ready to battle back at the start hitting three of their first four shots. ACU continued to battle eventually taking back their lead due to Seattle U’s poor shooting, bad communication and turnovers. A competitive game between the two teams. ACU went on a 10-0 run. At the 10-minute mark of the second half, it was 63-61. A technical shot was called with just a little seven minutes which was a sign looking to change momentum. Unfortunately, it did not go SU’s way. ACU continued to hit their shots more important their threes. Seattle U communication was lacking and one could tell that they were frustrated. ACU was on a 6-0 run within a minute and a half span. with less than four minutes left in the game, ACU built themselves an 11-point lead. A late technical foul in the last few minutes on Schumaker made matters worse resulting in Seattle U taking a 15-point deficit. ACU ended up going on a 14-2 run in the last 6:42 of the game. ACU pulled away with an 83-68 win. Ultimately snapping SU’s undefeated record at home. Seattle University now falls to 16-7, 7-2 in the WAC conference.

Seattle University Redhawks plays New Mexico State on February 4th at 7:00 PM.
