A big name in college basketball is changing location. Shaka Smart will be hired by Marquette as the new men’s basketball coach according to Jon Rothstein.
Smart will take over the team after Marquette fired Steve Wojciechowski following a seven-year run at the school. The Golden Eagles will need some rebuilding, as they went 13-14 during the 2020-2021 season.
In his coaching career, Smart has a 272-142 career record. He made one Final Four with Virginia Commonwealth in 2010-2011. In six years at Texas, Smart made the tournament in three seasons. This year, Texas was a no. 3 seed and were knocked out of the first round of the 2021 NCAA Tournamnent by Abilene Christian.
