College Basketball Weekend Takeaways 12/6-12/8

Publish Date: December 10, 2019

Dayton

Dayton is proving that they’re a complete team built around Obi Toppin and an A-10 favorite. In addition, the play of Jalen Crutcher has been very effective as a perimeter scorer. Next, Ryan Mikesell adds very good versatility for Dayton with his ability to score inside as well as stretching the defense. As well as, Rodney Chatman giving them very good play at point guard play initiating the offense. Furthermore, the bench depth is there with the addition of Ibi Watson’s ability to contribute. This is a complete team around Obi Toppin that will be making major noise coming in March.

Butler

Furthermore, they are led by Kamar Baldwin. The Senior is averaging 16.9 points a game who will continue to produce. They also have Aaron Thompson who is a very good defender and is now making shots to add to the backcourt. In addition, Sean McDermott and Jordan Tucker have the ability to stretch the defense their three-point shooting. Also, they are getting very solid production from Bryce Golden and Bryce Nze. Butler is capable of competing at the top of the Big East.

North Carolina

The scoring outside of Cole Anthony is striking and very alarming for this team. Now, when Cole Anthony is struggling to score the ball efficiently then North Carolina is in a load of trouble. In addition, they will need Armando Bacot to get back healthy to provide interior scoring along with Garrison Brooks. However, the two transfers in Christian Keeling and Justin Pierce need to show their worth offensively. Also, Leaky Black and Brandon Robinson are going to need to be able to be consistent scoring threats as well. North Carolina must be able to get out in transition and dominate the boards to get easy looks offensively. North Carolina will not be able to ride Cole Anthony all season without help.

Gonzaga

They are averaging 17.1 assists a game along with shooting 49.9 percent as a team, which is phenomenal. Furthermore, this starts with the guard play being very effective with Ryan Woolridge making great decisions along with Corey Kispert. In addition, the passing ability of their post players is sensational with Killian Tille especially. The efficiency they have on offense is setting up for Filip Petrusev and Kispert to shoot a high percentage all season long. If Gonzaga continues to play team basketball with great passing they are more than capable of winning the national championship in April.

Luka Garza

Garza has been one of the most dominant players to start this season. The junior is averaging 22.7 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. The presence he brings for Iowa inside is tremendous and he has added to his game with the ability to stretch the defense from the perimeter. He is shooting 42.9 percent from deep and making about two threes a game. If Luka Garza can keep up the pace he is at he will for sure be an All-American.
