Here is a preview of the best games of weekend of Week 10 in college basketball. This includes SEC matchups of Kentucky at Auburn, LSU at Tennessee and a Big 12 clash of Baylor at Oklahoma.
(12) Kentucky at (2) Auburn
Kentucky
Kentucky has a massive opportunity to prove they are still potentially the best team in the SEC against Auburn. The backcourt play of Sahvir Wheeler and TyTy Washington must be great against the pace of Wendell Green and physicality of K.D. Johnson. Furthermore, Oscar Tshiebwe has the ability to dominate this matchup against the less physical front court of Auburn and must dominate on both ends.
The emergence of Kellan Grady has been very good for Kentucky, his shooting will be vital for them to win this game. Kentucky’s depth will be important to match the production of Auburn, therefore Davion Mintz and Jacob Toppin must be big time.
Auburn
Auburn is playing the best basketball in the country and will look to continue to prove that point against Kentucky. First off, the play of Wendell Green has been terrific with his scoring and pace. Also, the physicality and toughness brought by K.D. Johnson sets the tone for Auburn on both ends. The biggest task for Auburn will be the front court play of Walker Kessler and Jaylin Williams versus Oscar Tshiebwe.
Jabari Smith has a great opportunity against Kentucky to deliver a performance that will stand out on a big stage with his versatility he brings. The shooting of Allen Flanigan and Devan Chambridge are X factors for Auburn in this game against Kentucky.
Auburn is going to continue to prove themselves as the best team in college basketball with a signature win over Kentucky.
Matchup to Watch: Oscar Tshiebwe vs Walker Kessler
Prediction: Auburn – 80, Kentucky – 75
(5) Baylor at Oklahoma
Baylor
Baylor was able to hold of West Virginia without James Akinjo and will need to figure things out if they are without him against Oklahoma. The offensive firepower of Baylor remains, with the scoring of L.J. Cryer and the shooting of Adam Flagler. Additionally, Mathew Mayer is an increased role and must continue to deliver offensively.
Jonathan Tchatchoua needs to have a good game defensively against Tanner Groves and his skill set. The X-factor for Baylor is Kendall Brown with his athleticism to get to the rim and his defensive ability.
Oklahoma
Oklahoma is coming off a game in which they nearly defeated Kansas at home, getting another big opportunity against Baylor. The play of Jordan Goldwire on both ends will be key because of his defensive ability and improvement offensively.
Tanner Groves must shoot it at a high level for Oklahoma to win this game. Also, Ujo Gibson is important for Oklahoma with his shooting and scoring ability from the perimeter. The toughness of Elijah Harkless will be important for the Oklahoma defense against the Baylor perimeter.
Oklahoma is going to come away with a crucial win at home over Baylor with Tanner Groves stepping up with his shooting.
Matchup to Watch: Tanner Groves vs Jonathan Tchatchoua
Prediction: Oklahoma – 74, Baylor – 69
(13) LSU at (24) Tennessee
LSU
LSU is looking to bounce back after losing to Alabama on the road. Now, health is a major factor for LSU with Darius Days and Xavier Pinson. That means the play of Eric Gaines and Brandon Murray must be very good. As well as, having Muhammad Wilkinson emerge more consistently on the offensive end for LSU. The play of Tari Eason off the bench for LSU has been terrific and will need to bring that production. The defensive identity is the foundation for LSU’s success and must be there for LSU in this game.
Tennessee
Tennessee is looking for more consistency throughout their team to be a top tier team in the SEC. Therefore, the play of Kennedy Chandler and Santiago Vescovi sets the tone for this team on the offensive end. The bench scoring of Justin Powell and Victor Bailey must be there for Tennessee to add depth for Tennessee.
John Fulkerson must be focal point for Tennessee in this matchup and step up in the matchup against Tari Eason. The defensive ability of Josiah Jordan-James will be key in defending the LSU perimeter. Tennessee is going to get a strong performance from Kennedy Chandler and Justin Powell in a win over LSU.
