Cincinnati Hires NKU’s John Brannen as Head Coach

The Cincinnati coaching search didn’t last very long, as the school announced on Sunday that former NKU head coach John Brannen has been hired.

Brannen has an 82-52 career record and two NCAA Tournament appearances. His head coaching career started when he took over as an interim head coach for Anthony Grant, who had been fired by Alabama after the team lost in the 2015 SEC Tournament. He posted a 1-1 record with the Crimson Tide.

Brannen then took the job at Northern Kentucky. Northern Kentucky was new to Division 1 basketball, but he was able to build a solid program that he took to the NCAA Tournament twice.

The Alexandria, Kentucky native will take over for Mick Cronin who left after 13 seasons with the school to take the job at UCLA.
