Over the years, there have been many Call of Duty (COD) Warzone tournaments made by either the teams of the league itself. But none of the tournaments made are quite like the one that happened last week on Warzone Wednesday. In all, the World Series of Warzone could be the next big thing for COD.
Warzone and the battle royale game mode, as a whole, have played a very important role in strengthening and increasing the likeability of Call of Duty as a game. From Call of Duty Blackout from two years ago in Black Ops 4 to Warzone in the present times, battle royale has remained a focal point for Call of Duty and its players.
Warzone
Warzone has remained one of the most played games in Call of Duty history, and currently is one of the most played games altogether throughout all platforms. That same significance has not been made by any other Call of Duty game. However, before the World Series of Warzone, the Warzone scene has faced a decline to other popular games such as Valorant and the always popular League of Legends.
Warzone is the second reiteration of the battle royale game mode in Call of Duty. The first being Blackout in Call of Duty Black Ops 4 which was also a huge success in its own right. Warzone has grown its popularity after a lot of streams who made a living off of other battle royale games such as Fortnite and PUBG, decided to give the game a try.
World Series of Warzone
Due to the increasing popularity, Warzone had a slow downfall after many of its players decided to play other games. Warzone, as a whole, needed some sort of a revival to get popular games and casual gamers alike to play the game.
That one revival soon came to be as the World Series of Warzone was announced a few months ago. This tournament brought the best and most popular players to play Warzone against each other to play for a huge prize pool of $100,000 dollars.
The WSOW brought on five team captains of the best and most popular players in the scene like Kris “Swagg” Lamberson and Matthew “Nadeshot ” Haag to draft ten teams from a pool of 45 additional teams. While there are popular streamers involved, there are also Call of Duty League professionals on teams to help make things more competitive.
The ruleset consisted of one point per kill with placing having a bit of an impact as if you placed first, you double your points. If you place second through the fifteenth, you can multiply your points by 1.5. While the rest keep the points they have.
Result of the Tournament
For the World Series of Warzone Trios Tournament, Aydan Conrad’s team won by 13 kills over second-placed team Repullze. While the best team of the tournament as a whole was Swagg’s team.
Reaction to the Tournament
While a lot of players complained about the previous tournament formats as most were impacted highly on placing. This time around, pro players and popular streamers alike loved the addition of the multiplier as this tournament was strongly based on the number of kills you got which prevented other players from playing very passive to try and win the game.
Overall, this could be the push Warzone and the Call of Duty community needed in order to increase popularity while also increasing revenue for the stability of Call of Duty as a whole.
