The CDL Championship Format

However, there are a lot of arguments that are being made when it comes to the format of the Call of Duty Championship tournament after the Call of Duty Leagues recent announcement. This could mean a problem as many questions are being made in regards to the CDL Championship format.

The Call of Duty Championship During CWL Seasons

It is argued that the Call of Duty World League, the predecessor to the Call of Duty League, had the best format of all. The format is what many professionals think it should be as it was more competitive and gave more teams a chance.

For instance, the CWL Call of Duty Championship format included the aspect that even amateur professional teams could qualify to get a chance at winning the Call of Duty Championship. For example, a team like Team Singularity could play for the world championship even though they are not a big organization.

However, there are many negatives to the formal that the CWL included in their season for the Call of Duty Championship. One of the negatives was that it caused really long days for the professionals and fans which led to everyone in attendance growing tired.

This led to some of the professionals playing badly at the beginning of the day and slowly get better throughout the long day only having to have a couple of hours rest because of them winning their matches. This is the one aspect the CDL wanted to change growing to their four-day system.

CDL’s Call of Duty Championship Format

The CDL’s four-day system consisted of all twelve franchised teams. Having a losers and winnings bracket respectively for the teams that placed well and place bad throughout the entire season. This was great as many of the players loved the competition as all the teams got a chance to win the championship.

However, the one flaw the format had, which people argued, was that the days were very short as there was only a max of three matches in one day leading to boredom for many of the fans as it was proven due to the drastic dropping of viewership on the stream.

The Format Now

The formal for CDL’s second season decreases the number of teams by far as only the top eight teams have a chance of winning Call of Duty’s most coveted trophy. This lead to all of the bottom teams hating the format because they do not have an incentive to want to play the rest of the season as they will not qualify for the championship no matter how well they do.

The counterargument to that was recently given by Call of Duty Pro, Seth “Scump” Abner, as he stated that it was on those teams to qualify and since they did not play well, they do not deserve to play in the Call of Duty Championship.

Overall, the format is being considered to be one of the worst formats as there is essentially going to be, at most, two matches a day which might cause less viewership due to the few matches being played. However, it is all to come next month to see whether or not the CDL championship format is the best.
