Seattle Surge Snap 10 Match Losing Streak With Upset Against OpTic Chicago
The Seattle Surge upset OpTic Chicago after winning a back-and-forth match. Up until Thursday’s match, the Seattle Surge had not won a match since Stage Two. The Seattle Surge saw themselves gain an early 1-0 lead after a close Hardpoint game on Raid. The Surge broke through OpTic’s defense on the last hardpoint to secure the win 250-232. OpTic Chicago came back and won Search and Destroy on Moscow to tie up the series 1-1 heading into Control. The Seattle Surge won 3-1 in Control, but lost in another close Hardpoint game to have the series ties 2-2 heading into game five.
Game five was Search and Destroy on Raid. The Seattle Surge won three rounds and got ahead, but OpTic Chicago tied it 4-4 heading into round nine. The Seattle Surge were able to close out the last two rounds of Search and Destroy and won the game 6-4 and the match 3-2. This is the Surge’s first win since April 8 against the Florida Mutineers in Stage Two. The Seattle Surge know they are confident and know their potential, but are still struggling says Preston “Prestinni” Sanderson.
“I think we’ve been confident, I think we know our potential. I’ve been saying this all year, we know how good we can be,” Prestinni says. “We usually choke maps and that throws away series, and we finally put together one. We even choked the fourth map, but we got the fifth map through.
The Seattle Surge went on to finish Stage Four with a record of 1-4 after losing their final match against the Paris Legion. The Surge will be playing in the First Elimination round against the London Royal Ravens in the Stage Four Major.
Atlanta FaZe Finish 5-0 in Stage Four
The Atlanta FaZe finish Stage Four with a 3-1 win over the Minnesota Rokkr. They secured first place in Group A and will play the winner of the Minnesota Rokkr and the New York Subliners in the Stage Four Major.
This was a close match despite what the final score says. The first game of Hardpoint on Garrison saw the two teams battling back and forth. The Minnesota Rokkr held the last hardpoint with time to win, but a final push by the Atlanta FaZe allowed them to capture the hardpoint and win 250-246. The Atlanta Faze won Search and Destroy 6-3 while the Minnesota Rokkr won Control 3-1. The final game of hardpoint was close until two good captures by the Atlanta FaZe to win the game 250-210 and the match 3-1. The Atlanta FaZe increase their win streak to seven in a row and improve to 13-1 in their last 14 matches. They feel motivated by last year’s failure to win the championship to win this year says Tyler “Abezy” Pharris.
“It motivates us a lot. After losing that, it was terrible. We put in so much work that year,” Abezy says. “This year, we’re going to do our best to hopefully accomplish that and win this year.”
Los Angeles Guerrillas Fail to Win in Stage Four
The Los Angeles Guerrillas did not win a match in Stage Four. Out of all their matches, the team only won three games and got swept twice. Going into the Los Angeles Thieves Home Series, the Los Angeles Guerrillas had two tough matches against the Toronto Ultra and the London Royal Ravens.
The Los Angeles Guerrillas were outmatched by the Toronto Ultra. They were unable to break hardpoints held by the Toronto Ultra and ended up losing 136-250. The Los Angeles Guerrillas put up a fight Search and Destroy on Express. After being down 4-1, they won two in a row to bring the game to 4-3. However, the Los Angeles Guerrillas could not complete the comeback to fall 6-3 in search and destroy. Control was the same story and they fell 0-3 in the match against the Toronto Ultra.
The match against the London Royal Ravens was a bit closer, but ultimately was the same result. The London Royal Ravens dominated in hardpoint, limiting the Los Angeles Guerrillas to score only 68 points. Going into round 10 of Search and Destroy, the Los Angeles Guerrillas were up 5-4 in this back-and-forth match. However, the London Royal Ravens came back and won the last two rounds to increase their lead to 2-0. The Los Angeles Guerrillas were able to win Control on Garrison 3-2 to try to come back in the match. Unfortunately for the Guerrillas, they were unable to gain any lead in the Hardpoint game on Checkmate and fell 160-250 and lost the match 1-3.
The Los Angeles Guerrillas will play Elimination Round 1 against the Los Angeles Thieves in the Stage Four Major.
