Browns Deal Emmanuel Ogbah to Chiefs for Eric Murray

Browns Trade Ogbah

The Cleveland Browns have been one of the most active teams in the 2019 NFL offseason. General manager John Dorsey has continued this trend as he has made another splash in the trade market.

It was reported on Monday that the Browns have traded defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah. The Browns are sending Ogbah to the Kansas City Chiefs in return for safety Eric Murray.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported early Monday that Ogbah did not show up to the Browns’ voluntary offseason workouts. It was believed that Ogbah kept his distance due to the trade talks surrounding him.

What Does Emmanuel Ogbah Bring to Kansas City?

The Browns selected Ogbah in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Since then, the pass rusher has started in each of the 40 games he has played in.

In addition, Ogbah has recorded a total of 122 combined tackles and 12.5 sacks in his three years on the team.  In 2018, the defensive end played 14 games and totaled 40 tackles along with three sacks.

Although it is not likely that Ogbah will start for his new team in Kansas City, he brings depth and experience to the table. With the Chiefs recently releasing veteran Justin Houston, bringing in a young talent like Ogbah seems like the correct move.

The Chiefs will head into the 2019 NFL season with a new defensive coordinator in Steve Spagnuolo. Although Ogbah has shown promise, he has not displayed any noteworthy statistics. Perhaps a new coach can help progress the development of the 25-year-old Ogbah.

Familiarity Between Eric Murray and the Browns

Safety Eric Murray was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. It just so happens that John Dorsey served as the Chiefs general manager in 2016.

Murray, 25-years-old, played as a cornerback in college but has transitioned to safety since playing in the NFL. His versatility along the defensive back positions has given him the opportunity to progress with each year he has played.

Murray played his best season with the Chiefs in 2018. The safety collected 55 combined tackles and an interception through nine starts.

The Browns released safety Derrick Kindred on Monday morning. It now seems that Murray will be his replacement.
