Today, Electronic Arts Inc. and the Union of European Football Associations announced a new event for 2019. The eChampions League event will be held early next year, and will consist of a Global Online Knockout tournament on March 2-3, as well as a live qualifying event for the top 64 competitors on April 26-27. This competition adds to the growing list of events leading up to the Road to the FIFA eWorld Cup 2019 which will be taking place next summer.
The finals will consist of the top 8 Players from the previous stage, and will be held on May 31st, 2019. The following day, the top teams of the UEFA Champions League will face off in the real-world final, making for an exciting weekend for fans of digital and traditional soccer. To further fuse the two, the eChampions league finalists will be drafting and using those players present in the UEFA Champions League Group Stage.
“Building an authentic UEFA Champions League competition was the next logical step in the continued EA SPORTS FIFA 19 Global Series expansion for both players and spectators,” said Brent Koning, EA SPORTS FIFA Competitive Gaming Commissioner. “Our passionate competitors love the UEFA Champions League and the eChampions League creates a unique opportunity for the competitive FIFA superstars to represent their clubs in the pinnacle of club football.”
Participants will be competing on Playstation 4 for their share of a $280,000 prize pool, and 850 EA Sports FIFA 19 Global Series Points.
