Brad Ziegler headed back to Diamondbacks in trade with Marlins

The Arizona Diamondbacks have acquired Brad Ziegler from the Miami Marlins according to multiple reports.

Ziegler previously played with the Diamondbacks from 2011-2016 and will rejoin the team as they make a playoff push. He has a 3.98 ERA this season in 53 appearances. Although he started off the season as the Marlins’ closer, Ziegler has benefitted from a role change. He has allowed just three earned runs since June 1.

The Diamondbacks already have one of MLB’s best bullpens with a 3.07 ERA. Ziegler will help make that unit even better heading into the late months of the season.

The Diamondbacks will trade Double-A reliever Tommy Eveld to the Marlins in exchange for Ziegler according to Nick Piecoro. Eveld is a 24-year-old and has a 1.96 ERA in three minor league seasons.
