The Arizona Cardinals are finalizing a trade to send quarterback Jacoby Brissett to the Baltimore Ravens, according to NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter. The deal is expected to be finalized by the weekend.
Brissett was benched by the Cardinals earlier this week, with Arizona naming Gardner Minshew II its starting quarterback after he led a comeback in a huge road win against the Cowboys. Brissett had started the past 20 games for Arizona, going back to Week 6 of last season, and is an 11-year veteran who has played for six different NFL teams throughout his career.
The Ravens’ quarterback room is in complete disarray after losing Lamar Jackson to a potentially season-ending thumb injury that will require surgery. Backup Tyler “Snoop” Huntley is also dealing with a season-ending turf toe injury.
The Ravens’ undrafted rookie quarterback Joe Fagnano will start Thursday night’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. It’s likely that Brissett could take over as Baltimore’s starter as soon as in Week 10, when the Ravens host the Chargers on Monday Night Football.
The Ravens are currently 4-4 and sit in last place in a competitive AFC North, but making this move for a veteran quarterback in Brissett shows that Baltimore isn’t giving up on its season and believes it still has a chance to make the playoffs.
