Aaron Donald becomes highest paid defensive player ever

Defensive tackle Aaron Donald and the Rams have agreed to a six-year, $135 million extension with $87 million guaranteed according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The deal makes Donald the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history.

Donald was holding out this offseason, but got his deal in time to be ready for the Rams’ season opener against the Oakland Raiders on September 10.

The Rams were committed to signing Donald long-term as general manager Les Snead is quoted as saying they want to make Donald a Ram for a long time.

He has made the Pro Bowl four times and been an All-Pro three times. Donald has totaled 39 sacks and 148 tackles in his four-year career.

There is optimism for Donald this season especially, as he will be lining up next to newly-acquired Ndamukong Suh with the Rams trying to make the playoffs for the second straight season.

Donald is still just 27-years-old and should be a crucial part of the Rams’ defense throughout his prime years.
