On March 5, the Golden State Warriors signed a familiar face in center Andrew Bogut. He had to acquire a work visa before officially joining the Warriors.
Bogut started his career with the Milwaukee Bucks as the first pick of the 2005 draft. He played with the Bucks for seven years. Then, the Bucks traded to him the Warriors with Stephen Jackson in exchange for Monta Ellis, Ekpe Udoh and Kwame Brown. Bogut played for the Warriors for four years and won a championship with them in 2015.
After his stint with the Warriors, Bogut played with other teams such as the Dallas Mavericks, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers waived Bogut and he went on to play with the Sydney Kings in Australia. Now, Bogut is ready to return to the NBA with one of his former teams.
According to Nick Friedell of ESPN, Bogut will join the Warriors next week and debut against the Indiana Pacers. The Warriors wanted Bogut to make his debut during their road trip, but his visa issues caused a delayed. He’ll debut in their three-game homestand which begins on Thursday.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr discussed Bogut’s potential debut.
“He probably will not be here on this road trip,” coach Steve Kerr said after Friday’s practice. “I think he gets to the Bay on Saturday. So I didn’t think it made sense for him to fly across the country after flying across the world, so he’ll probably just meet us in the Bay when we get back, more than likely.”
Kerr also said that Bogut’s visa issues are worked out and he will practice when the Warriors return home.
This is Bogut’s second stint with the Warriors. He averaged 6.2 points and 8.2 rebounds in his four years with the Warriors. The addition of Bogut will help the Warriors as they finish their season. The Warriors have another big man to their rotation.
Bogut has a chance to win another championship as well as continue his NBA journey. This signing benefits both Bogut and the Warriors.
