The New Orleans Saints have been active on the second day of legal tampering for NFL free agency. They have decided to bring back quarterback Teddy Bridgewater and will sign Latavius Murray.
Bridgewater was the backup for the Saints last year after being acquired in a trade from the Jets. The Dolphins reportedly had an offer that would’ve given Bridgewater more money, but Bridgewater preferred the locker room culture of the Saints. Jane Slater of NFL Network was the first to report the deal.
In his career, Bridgewater has thrown for 6,268 yards, 29 touchdowns and 23 interceptions on 64.6% completion. He was the starter with Minnesota early in his career, but a knee injury before the 2016 season has changed the trajectory of his career. Now he will look to take over for Drew Brees when the veteran retires.
Murray spent the first three seasons of his career with Oakland and then the next two with the Vikings. He made a Pro Bowl in 2015 with the Raiders. He has 3,698 rushing yards and 883 receiving yards in his career.
The signing of Murray likely means the Saints won’t keep running back Mark Ingram who will be a major name on the free agent market.
