The NFL season is full of surprises, which makes it hard to pick winners. Cecil Walker and Joe DiTullio, of The Third and the Don Football Show, will do their best to try to predict the winners for every NFL game this season. Here are the NFL Divisional round picks.
Saturday: Indianapolis Colts at Kansas City Chiefs
Joe- Kansas City is a tough place to play, but the Chiefs don’t have a great defense. With the way that Andrew Luck is playing, he will be able to keep up with Patrick Mahomes and the talented Kansas City offense. In the end, Indianapolis’ defense will make a key stop and Luck will lead a game-winning touchdown drive.- Colts
Cecil- I am going with the hot hand in this one and putting my trust in Andrew Luck. Patrick Mahomes will make at least one mistake in his first playoff start as an insurmountable amount of pressure is being put on this young Chiefs team. Arrowhead is a tough place to play, but none of the pressure will be on Luck who has led a much worse Colts team to an AFC Championship appearance before.-Colts
Dallas Cowboys at Los Angeles Rams
Joe- The Rams were a team that faded down the stretch and got a much-needed bye for the first week of the playoffs. Sean McVay will make the most of the week off and prepare well. With Todd Gurley back, the Rams will run the ball well, even against a stout Dallas defense. The Rams will be too much for the Cowboys.- Rams
Cecil- I am going with the upset pick here as I think something very similar to the Falcons vs Rams playoff game will occur. This is not the regular season where Sean McVay can take advantage of lesser teams. The Rams have been on a downward trend and sometimes the week of rest does more harm than good. The Cowboys have an underrated defense and a strong running game. The teams that have those two things usually make it further than a team that is known for its passing attack and a shaky defense-.-Cowboys
Sunday: Los Angeles Chargers at New England Patriots
Joe- While the Patriots have the home-field advantage, the Chargers are more battle-tested and have the better record. The Chargers’ defense will slow down the Patriots, who have a lack of playmakers. After that point, Philip Rivers can will his team to victory.- Chargers
Cecil- Winning in Foxborough come playoff time is no small order for any team. However, this is not the Patriots of years past. The defense is very average, Gronk is a shadow of his former self, and Brady lacks true playmakers. The Chargers have been battle tested and have basically played every game on the road this season with a lacking fan base. Don’t think for a second that Philip Rivers hasn’t been waiting to get revenge on the Patriots in the playoffs all this time either.- Chargers
Philadelphia Eagles at New Orleans Saints
Joe- Nick Foles’ magic continued with their win over the Bears. Unfortunately, that will not be the case again for Eagles fans. The Saints have a home-field advantage, which means that their offense will not be slowed down by the weather. The offense will thrive and the Saints’ defense will make a few good stops.- Saints
Cecil- This should be the more lopsided game, but I said that about the Eagles last matchup and I was dead wrong. At some point, the magic of Nick Foles is going to run out and the holes on the defense are going to expose. The Saints don’t lose at home and you know Drew Brees will be giving it his all in his last run at another Super Bowl- Saints
