The NFL season is already full of surprises, which makes it hard to pick winners. Cecil Walker and Joe DiTullio, of The Third and the Don Football Show, will do their best to try to predict the winners for every NFL game this season. Here are the NFL week 8 picks.
Thursday Night: Miami Dolphins at Houston Texans
Joe- Brock Osweiler gets his shot at the Texans, but with how hot Houston is right now it is unlikely he picks up a win. Deshaun Watson being banged up is a bit of a concern, but he took a long bus ride to Jacksonville to play last week. The Texans will get their fifth straight.-Texans
Cecil- The Dolphins have overperformed with Brock Osweiler under center. That stops here as the Texans have too much talent on both sides of the ball for the Dolphins to win here.- Texans
Sunday: Philadelphia Eagles at Jacksonville Jaguars (in London)
Joe- Jacksonville is about as dysfunctional of a locker room as anyone has seen in recent memory. Blake Bortles is playing awful right now. Even though the Eagles have not found their rhythm yet, Carson Wentz will do enough to win this game.-Eagles
Cecil- This is a tale of two underperforming teams. One is starting to look better. The other looks like they are about to implode. The Eagles are the former and the Jaguars the latter. Carson Wentz will be the X-factor here.-Eagles
New York Jets at Chicago Bears
Joe-The Jets are better than anyone expected, but still can’t stay consistent. With the Bears’ defense and Mitchell Trubisky turning it on, they will win at home.-Bears
Cecil- Not a lot to say here. Darnold hasn’t looked great and don’t expect that to change against the Bears dominant defense. -Bears
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Cincinnati Bengals
Joe-While the Bengals are vulnerable after their blow out loss to the Chiefs, they should be able to bounce back. The Buccaneers will keep it close, but the Bengals will win out in the end.- Bengals
Cecil- The Buccaneers are absolutely horrid on defense and the Bengals should be able to take advantage despite a rough loss on Sunday Night Football.-Bengals
Seattle Seahawks at Detroit Lions
Joe- Can anyone figure out Detroit this year? They beat some teams they probably shouldn’t and lose to teams they shouldn’t as well. The Seahawks will be battling for playoff positioning, but the Lions will win because they are at home.-Joe
Cecil- This is really up to if Russell Wilson can put the whole team on his back once again. That is a tall order traveling from the Westcoast against a Lions team that is starting to put the pieces together.-Lions
Denver Broncos at Kansas City Chiefs
Joe- This one was close the first time and can be again if the Broncos can get pressure on Patrick Mahomes. Unfortunately, the Broncos don’t have enough fire-power to keep up with the Chiefs.-Chiefs
Cecil- The Chiefs had some problems against the Broncos in their first go around. That was at Mile High,. playing at Arrowhead Stadium is a completely different animal- Chiefs BIG!!
Washington Redskins at New York Giants
Joe- The Giants are not a good football team, even though Saquon Barkley has been a bright spot. The Redskins will win a close one to preserve their lead in the NFC East.
Cecil- On paper, this is an easy pick. All the Redskins need to do is limit Saquon Barkley and they will roll. However, when it comes to NFC East matchups, anything can happen..- Redskins
Cleveland Browns at Pittsburgh Steelers
Joe- Pittsburgh tied the Browns earlier and is going to be more focused now so it won’t happen again. James Connor, Antonio Brown and Ben Roethlisberger will all have big games as the Browns will struggle to keep up.-Steelers
Cecil- The Steelers were caught by surprise in their first matchup. That won’t happen a second time at Heinz Field.-Steelers
Baltimore Ravens at Carolina Panthers
Joe- Carolina keeps on finding ways to win after coming back against the Eagles. Cam Newton still needs to complete passes downfield, but the running game is dynamic. This will be a good defensive battle with the Panthers coming out on top.- Panthers
Cecil- The Ravens’ offense has looked anemic one game and great the next. I think we see the bad version of Joe Flacco in a tough road game. The two pronged attack of Cam Newton and Christian McCafferty will get the job done as well.- Panthers
Indianapolis Colts at Oakland Raiders
Joe- Can the Raiders beat anyone besides the Browns this year? They are playing a subpar Colts team at home the week after a bye. This is one of the games that the Raiders should be expected to win in.-Raiders
Cecil- What a nailbiter. This game comes down to which quarterback you trust more. I like the team with Luck on their side. -Colts
Green Bay Packers at Los Angeles Rams
Joe- Aaron Rodgers will keep it close, but the Rams are the far superior team. Aaron Donald is on a hot streak getting to the quarterback and that won’t change this week. The Rams will stay undefeated for another week.-Rams
Cecil- The Rams offense will have a field day against a pedestrian Packers’ defense. It will be difficult for Aaron Rodgers to keep up with the Rams great pass rush coming after him.-Rams
San Francisco 49ers at Arizona Cardinals
Joe-These are two really bad teams. The difference is that the 49ers have fought hard and look like they can pick up some wins on some bottom-feeders. With Patrick Peterson not wanting to be there, the Cardinals need to rebuild.-49ers
Cecil- Another barn burner here. The 49ers have looked competitive against some good teams even without Jimmy G. Meanwhile, the Cardinals look like they are ready to pack it in and get ready for next season. -49ers
New Orleans Saints at Minnesota Vikings
Joe- In a rematch of the “Minnesota Miracle” last year, the Saints are going to want revenge. They are the more complete team and the Vikings’ defense has some major issues. They are now without Mike Hughes and Everson Griffen. The Saints take this one by a touchdown.-Saints
Cecil- The Vikings have been struggling on defense and the Saints defense is downright terrible. Drew Brees should be able to score enough points in a dome game. No fluke plays in this one. -Saints
Monday Night: New England Patriots at Buffalo Bills
Joe- The Patriots have this one in the bag. The Bills just got destroyed by the Colts. Derek Anderson and Nathan Peterman, whoever starts, will be physically incapable of beating the Patriots.-Patriots
Cecil- Why did ESPN pick this game? The Patriots don’t lose AFC East matchups and they don’t overlook teams and will demolish the Bills. -Patriots
